550/380 Gauges: Can someone explain this ?
Recently, I was cleaning up and servicing my gauges when I took notice of 2 holes that appear at the top of the mounting bracket. These holes have no apparent function. Nor do any fiches explain what they may have been used for. Does anyone have an idea ? I am pointing at the one of the two holes with an ink pen. They are both located horizontally from one another at the top.

Is there meant to be a rubber cushion in there?

IIRC, they hold the two top bulb holders into the clocks.
I'll have a look tomorrow if you need further info. I'll get a pic.

I don't think so. This fiche shows all of the rubber cushions that I have installed. Doesn't show any inserted in the holes that I pointed out.titan performance wrote:Is there meant to be a rubber cushion in there?

That bracket may be used on more than one bike. They may be used in a different application.....but that's just a guess.

Hey that's an idea! I'll drill lots of holes in the 3 into 4 on the GT550 and save weight. Thanks!!
Will the carb jets be OK or will I have to fit different ones?

Re: 550/380 Gauges: Can someone explain this ?
Sorry to disagree but I don't think they're bulb holders. The bulbs are held well in the clocks via their rubber grommet things. The bracket does press those bulb holders home but they are not attached to the bracket. I just dismantled my 380 clocks two days ago.
I too have noticed those 'redundant' holes (LMAB 380 bracket is same part number as LMAB 550, 34950-33120). And why is one piece with a hole in wider than the other? I also guess they fit a different bike which I believe includes T/GT500?

The pic I took was on a 550J so maybe on that model they do hold the two bulbs in. They seem to on mine.
On the later models there are more bulbs so maybe they realised they held in on their own? Dunno?

Alan H. I think you may be on to something about that upraised section pressing against the grommet to perhaps aid in keeping them in place. But, that point you made. Which was good, still doesn't give an explanation for the holes.
