I have not split the cases yet & had the crank checked out, but I hope it only requires the seals to be replaced. Do the 550 cranks have a reputation for being strong?Well - you are the only one so far ! The bearings don't often fail so unless you are very unlucky you should be OK. So many of the other parts for this engine are not available either (con rods for example) so its actually a bigger problem than just bearings. At least a decent machine shop can cobble together an alternative fairly easily as it is a standard bearing size - its just not straight forward.
