tires for lester mags on a buffalo??

Post by two-stroke-brit »

what make and model tires are the current flavour for a buffalo with lester mags :? ??.
i hear avon makes a roadrider thats good and bridgestone seem popular,
i am not concerned with looking period.
and do the sizes relate to :oops: .
ie 130/90-18 .
130 =max width.
90=rim or bead width.
18=rim dia.
and any leads on where to buy from would be nice.
thanks mark

130 is the width
90 is the aspect ratio as a percentage of the width. an 80 is lower than a 90 for example. Old style tires used to be 100%. Modern 17" are 60 or less%

Avon Roadriders are good as are Bridgestone Spitfires or BT45s.

What width are those rims? That dictates the width you can fit. 130 requires a 3.00 inch rim to sit nicely but can be fitted to a 2.50 (WM4)

The Lesters I had on my GT were the same sizes as the stock wheels, 19/1.85 front, 18/2.15 rear. The size tyres I'd run are 90/90/19, 100/90/19 fronts, 110/80/18, 110/90/18, 120/80/18, 120/90/18 rears. I'm currently using Bridgestone BT45 100/90/19 & 120/80/18. Avon tyres have a good reputation (I ran the old Venoms in the early '90s), & Metzeler Lazertechs are another good choice (i've run them in the past). I found they all give similar mileage and overall perfomance, good all round tyres for the GT. It really comes down to what is easy to get in your area and price. I have to order in Avon & Metzelers, where as Bridgstones are readily available.

the rim sizes are 2.1 and 3.0. so i should be able to go with the 130 rear right? i seem to remember someone saying that a 140 would have chain clearance issues.

Your Lesters have a more sensible rim width than the ones I had, opens up your choices in tyres. A 130 on the 3inch rear would be a nice size for the GT. I've been thinking about having one of my spare sets of wheels relaced with a 2.5 front and 3.0 rear rims for the wider choices in available tyres. I don't think a 140 would clear my chain without some modification, but a 130 will fit.
