Sorry Suzsmokeyallan, I can't be one of the guys. This board has proven to me that I'm all girl. Even though I love the looks and sounds of those vintage two strokes, I'll probably never be able to own one since I'm incapable of repairing/restoring one. ( I know my limits)

No matter how many times I read these threads, half the times I don't know what the heck you guys are taking about unless you show pictures or diagrams.

I hope that statement doesn't get me shunned from the board. I do so much like to see those old girls transformed into the beauties they once were.

For now I'll dream that perhaps someday, I'll find a knight in shinning armor who comes equipped with a two stroke that we can both enjoy.

:)

That kind of comment will get you into serious trouble, its way to vague and leaves all sorts of things to be desired.

You don't need to be a 'gearhead' to own and ride a 'vintage' Suzuki. get one and enjoy riding! Since you are in Florida, maybe you can get gyrocfi or suzsmokeyallan do a little wrenching when needed. :D :D

Perhaps you could start on something a little light weight, like a GT185. There is one in DeLand, Florida at a dealership. Needs a little attention, but a good starter bike for sure.

Hey Rbond,
I have friend who's husband is willing to teach me how to ride (the brave soul).
She's going to lend me her bike..... a Honda Rebel Rider. Is that small enough for me to learn on. She sent me picture but I don't know how to post it on here.

Now it's all just a matter of finding the time to do it.

That is a good bike to start on too. It is a 250, rather low to the ground and not heavy. Once you find the time to learn, the you will need to find any excuse to ride!! :D :D I think you will enjoy driving a bike even more fun than riding as a passenger. It won't take too long to get where you will do the controls in an almost automatic manner, similar to driving a car. Once you get the hang of it, taking the same route to work will seem very different on a bike and yet familiar. Just please, don't rush it, take the time to get comfortable in how you handle your bike in the most common circumstances, such as in a parking lot (slow speed moving), gravel, pot holes, etc. It has been said the best way to learn how to ride on the street, is by learning to ride dirt bikes. There may be some truth to that as experiences I had in dirt, gravel, in the woods, has been very helpful when dealing with changing (very quickly) different pavements, cracks in the road...... This may sound scary or too much, it is actually the same thing in a car, but seen in a whole new light. Believe me it will be worth it and you may wonder what took you so long to discover bikes. If I may, it can almost be as good as sex, not equal or better, but a close second,

Well...you almost scared me off with your description of all the hazards that await me out there, but then, that last line reeled me in. I know I won't be able to handle the "big" bikes that were offered to me. Then my friend offered her's and it sounds like it would be a perfect match for me. Low to the ground, where I can rest both feet comfortably and the fact that it's not too wide convinced me furthermore. I really want to be in control of what I put between my legs, it wouldn't be fun if I were constantly afraid of falling over because I couldn't reach the ground or my stance was too wide. The only other thing left for me to do now, is to coordinate with her hubby some time to actually do it! I can't make it this weekend, I'm having a b-day party for two family members, next week they can't make it.... they're riding to the east coast, so possibly the weekend after that. I'll keep you posted.

BTW, how long does it normally take to learn?

(They ride Harley's, but I won't hold that against them).
