summer tour advice

i'll be heading out in a few days for a driving vacation. a counter clockwise lap of the u.s.a. michigan, ohio, kentucky, tennessee, arkansas, oklahoma, texas, new mexico, arizona, nevada, utah, idaho and washington.
i have a few stops planned but for the most part there is no plan.
in the past i have driven by some wonderous things, only to find out later about them.
you know when people say, "you should have stopped there" or "you should have taken that road" or "you should have camped at that state park". well i don't wanna hear that no more.
also i am in search of these fabled suzuki boneyards dotting the landscape. specifically 60's models.
any suggestions on any of this is welcome.

If you are in the Tennessee area, Rotary Recycle is a good place to check out, and of course you would not be too far from the Barber Museum, and if you like museums then this site has the best list I've found.

I'm not sure if these two destinations are on your route, but they should be.
One is Crater Lake, in south central Oregon. The other is a "must see" on everyones list, that being the Evergreen Aeronautical Museum, in McMinnville OR, just a bit southwest of Portland. The museum is absolutely amazing. It is the resting place of the "Spruce Goose", of Howard Hughes fame. When I was there on our annual early spring ride in late Apr/early May, I also found out that they have an SR 71 Blackbird, in all it's glory, on display. Well worth the journey. Another sight you might like, thats in the same vicinity, is Mt. St. Helen. We were there a few days from the 30th anniversary of it's temper tantrum. The recovery that has taken place in 30 years is remarkable. We would have seen the blast zone too, if it wasn't for the pea-soup fog bank we hit near the summit. Great to visit, regardless.

What are he dates you will be touring? Where in Texas are you going? Will you post as you go?

If your an aviation buff the Air and space museum in Dayton Ohio is fantastic. Like the one buffalo guy mentioned it's got an SR71 but so much more. ,a few of the old presidential planes, a Spooky gunship from Nam was my favorite cool plane because I heard about it from a bud who saw it working out in person.You need to take a shuttle onto the air base to see the hanger full of the coolest Xplane collection you'll ever see and touch, from the X planes that broke the sound barrier to the XB70 Valkyrie the wildest hotrod you'll ever lay eyes on.(down below) Plan on spending a day.Here's the website....................

There's also a resto shop you can visit but you need reservations well in advance.

That sounds like a serious trip, Dennis. Good on yer, as they say in Oz.
If you're in Cowtown, Casa H2 is always open for weary travellers.
One road that I, personally, have wanted to ride for many years but have not yet had the chance to is the famous Lolo Pass Road which runs from just south of Missoula, MT to Kooskia, ID. The highway is #12 although I'm not sure if that's US 12 or MT 12 or ID 12. The road is 70 miles long and is supposed to be a really great ride.
Please keep us posted with pics, etc, as you go along, if at all possible. It's always great to see/hear about trips to places that many of us will never have the chance to see/ride to.
