Update on the beed box. Ive got Op 1 cut , but the reed cage doesnt fit quite like I want it. I ve got to see where im hitting, make a program change, and Ill re-run the part. I am gonna make a second part to keep and do a cut away, to see where im closest to hitting.

Kris, it's great to see that reed block emerging out of a block of billet.
How wide are those reeds across the stops? They may be bent too wide.
If the gap between the tips of the reed stops and the reeds is more than about 10mm it's too far. Just bend them back in slightly and see if that cures it.
Reeds are longer than stops, and the reed petals should never touch the hard metal reed box.

Im pretty sure that the corner radius is too large. The cage goes in fine without the steel reed stops your talking about. And I left plenty of clearance at the bottom for them, since the steel is easily bendable, and I wasnt sure on the position the are 'supposed' to be. I may need to run a .25 ball mill down each corner to clean up the rest of the material. Its cut now with a 3/8 ball. The clearance at the top for the screws is plenty big also. Im gonna blue it up this weekend (hopefully the wife will let me go to the shop on valentines day)

Hi Kris, Richard.
Whats the latest on the reed blocks? They sure look great, morphing out of that block of aluminum. Just curious. Been working on Janice's T 350 engine, and it is plain to me, that some people in this life should never have a wrench in their hand. What a calamity of errors, that almost lead to catastrophic failure. Suffice to say, water in one crankcase for too long, and one piston in backwards, should bring images to mind. Cheers.

Hi guys,
Im sorry for the extremely long delay on getting this project off the ground. Im finally getting some free time on the weekends. My son had 4 straight weeks of floor hockey tournaments after the regular season. needless to say he played about 6-8 games a weekend between his 2 teams.
I plan on finishing up this reed box in the next coupe weeks. Im doing the final wiring on my GT this weekend, and should have time after that. I hope im not keeping from riding, while waiting on this project. I doubt thats likely but....
Ive got to make a set of soft jaws for the next op. There drawn up, just not milled yet.
Ill keep you posted.

Kris.
Do what ya gotta do, my friend. Family first. I just took my son to the airport the other day, along with my daughter-in-law to be, and they were off to Hawaii for 10 days. He'll be 33 yrs next month. Holy smoke, where did that time disappear to? Put in the time with them now, because they grow and go all too quickly. Cheers.

Ive got another op cut. Its three ops total on the cage. I still have to machine in the mount holes to the plate, and make the plate. The plate will be quick, andf the last op will be quick also, i just dont think the mill will be open again till the end of the week. The plate I can do on the Bridgeport, so that will be done tomorrow. Ill keep at it, to have this done by the weeks end.

Im doing the spacer plate today. How much room do you guys want around the reed cage, to the outside of the weld plate. 1/8th inch? 1/4 inch? None? It seems to me that some room will be needed for welding the plate to the cylinder, and not distorting the contact area of the cage to the plate. Make Sense?
