Post by two-stroke-brit »

can you remove the starter clutch as an assembly ie remove locknut and pull it all of together, or does it come of piece by piece,
the lock nut is off but i cant see whats next.

I use a steering wheel puller that has the correct spacing - you need something with bolts that you can thread into the face of the starter clutch assembly, and then allow you to pull straight off. Don't try to use a gear puller (with hooks) as that will risk ruining the starter clutch assembly.

If at first you don't succeed, just get a bigger hammer !

I did the same thing. Gear puller from SEARS.

You can pull the complete clutch house off in one go, once you have removed the pressure plate and lock nut. Be careful there are 2 thrust washers one on the inside and outside of the spacer between the gear damper house. See illustration in parts catalogue
