750 cylinder removal plate

750 cylinder removal plate
Im planning on making a plate tool, to remove my gummed up, stuck on, rusted on, corroded on, all but welded on, cylinder from the cases.
I can make as many as needed for anybody that wants one. If i buy material from Mcmaster Carr, it will be 30-35 dollars for material alone. So I can do $50-$55 plus shipping for each one. They will be 6 by 15 inches and 3/8 inches thick plate steel. If there is any interest for these let me know soon. the more people that want them, the cheaper the material will be, and i will pass that on to everybody that buys one. If i can get enough interest, I will steel from a steel mill like Alro which will be a lot cheaper.

I'm amazed by the sudden interest,,, i made two of these plates a while back and posted the pics then. One was for myself and one for Suzukidave, and no one showed any interest back when i posted the pics.

Its not light, a 1/2 inch steel plate of that size and the 10mm pusher bolts works out at around 20 lbs.

3/8 thick by 6 inches is 7.65lbs per foot. So.... about 9.56lbs to be exact. I can look into the USPS flat rate boxes too. They have a flatter shaped box for the $10.50 price for up to 15lbs I think. I plan on using fine threads for all holes for added strength.

On this very subject...
Does anyone have the where-with-all to manufacture pulling bolts, similar to what Teazer has or has used before?
It's a proven that the puller-plate method works quite well, but a plate (especially 1/2 inch) is a bloody heavy thing to handle and move about.
Teazer's idea of large bolts tightened into the (threaded as well) stud holes in the block, with 10mm 'pusher' bolts coaxial to the larger bolts seems to me to be a much more elegant solution.
They wouldn't be as wieldy to use and you can make them long and in a fine thread to get maximum strength into the block compared with the 8mm bolts that hold the puller-plate down - I have heard of those bolts pulling out on particularly recalcitrant examples...
A suitable tap could be supplied with the 'kit' to thread the block prior to using them.
Isn't this the OEM solution anyways...

I looked at this material choice long and hard and after weighing out all the pros and cons its best to stick with the 1/2 steel plate.
It gives you maximum thread without having to weld on nuts, a problem with the thinner materials.
The bolts i used were 10mx1.25 pitch, again a fine thread for best torque dispersion and hardened as well to a certain degree.
These were "Rawlbolt' brand items from a concrete expansion anchor system out of the UK and were perfect for the job.
They even had a concave end that sat squarely onto the convex head of the case studs so they never drifted off of centre during the tightening.
The reason many of the 8mm bolts pulled out was because the users did not locate long enough 8mm bolts but used the handle clamp bolts etc from the bike.
You need to measure the holes depth and get hardened 8mm bolts that nearly bottom out when the plate is fitted so you have maximum thread coverage and they wont stretch either.
