A base gasket makes the perfect pattern for a spacer plate http://suzukidave.myphotos.cc/suzukidav ... -Model.pdf

5mm is fine for the exhaust at 42.5-5.0 = 37.5, but rather a lot for transfer timing 51.0-5.0= 46.0 which is way more than a TR750. As my dear departed mother used to say - everything in moderation.
Spacers are available from Cometic Gasket at very reasonable prices.
What this all comes down to is thinking about what your objectives are. Are you looking for race bike power and a narrow powerband, or good bottom end for a fun street machine or?

Call Cometics Gaskets. You wont find the GT shim on their website but if you call and speak to their technical department, they will tell you how thick they can go. They sell the thickness in terms of inches...I just got a turn-around of 2 business days on a .125" shim for a 1974 GT750. They also offer different thickness on the base gaskets, which you will need a set of two.

Im planning on putting this in a newer frame/roller like any inline 4 i can get on the cheap. I want a good streetable powerband. Nothing too radical. Since Ive got a motor only, I ll pick up some standard VM's probly not flatsides, but than again if I got to buy them, I might as well get the best. Ill probly run some chambers too. This is going to be a lengthy build, as im contemplating selling my 550, getting something I can ride daily and 2 up with my son. He loves going along.

I recently purchased a 600 Katana and had to change out the motor , when the stock engine was out i did some measurements and it would be tight front to back like my gt750 / GSXR frame build but being the Katana frame is steel it would make it a lot easier to make changes . So my pick for stuffing a GT engine in something more modern would be a 750 Katana frame http://www.motorcycleracer.net/phpBB2/v ... php?t=1972 , http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid ... John (bighole) is working on a similar project. I machined his swingarm narrower to fit the katana frame. I think he's runnin a TL swingarm and forks. I made up a couple internal parts to get the proper spacing too. I just want a non runner with a straight chassis. I dont want to go through what he is right now.
Im gonna measure up my wifes Seca II tonight and see what kind of room there is in one of those.

I'd start with the Arctic Cat tiple ZRT reeds because that would appear to bet the most common type bought by people here.
It should be fairly easy to modify the CAD design for different reed cages as long as the basic design is sound. If the manifolds (carb boots) that match those reeds are straight, I'd suggest you start with a 10 degree slope on the forward (motor) face.
Make one prototype it and then have it installed on a reed motor with different carbs to check for clearance.
I have a block machined already and a variety of carbs from 34-39mm in round and flat configurations to test for clearance.
"Someone" needs to design the basic reed box though to make it work and I don't have any Arctic Cat reed cages, so who has a set of them and knows what the design should look like?

Durgam.
I'm in for a set of AC reed boxes as well, whatever you come up with. I've acquired the necessary reed blocks and manifolds for just such a transformation. Keep us posted and just holler when you need funding. It's getting exciting, and interesting. Thanks for being there, with your considerable machining expertise. Cheers.
