So even though this won't be an AHRMA event I still plan on going, probably will be my only race this year.

Ralph,

How are you liking that small crank now - after a few races on it? Apart from the ease with which it spins up, do you notice any other changes? For example is it less powerful in the midrange or better? Is the top end as strong or is it less peaky and smoother and easier to ride fast?

My First time goin' hope it's at least as good as Barbers.

Anyone have suggestions as to where the good camping sites might be at teh track??

As far as I know there are two very large camping grounds at Mid Ohio. There are thousends of campers in each site. The larger site is located at the main entrance to the track and is essentially a large field. The other site is on the other side of the track and has more trees but also many more RVs.

As to a comparison with Barbers...Mid Ohio is very much larger in attendance/scope and the track isn't as nicely landscaped as Barbers. There are many more venders at Mid Ohio and each major motorcycle company offer demo rides.

thanks for the info. I decided to do VMD this year instead of Oshkosh EAA Show. They always seem to be scheduled to close together and makes it impossible to ride to VMD and be able to get up to the Oshkosh show/and demonstrate my aircraft. With the economy in the dumps, its a good time to take a break and do the ride up and camp at VMD.

The two changes I made after last season were the lighter (smaller) crank and going to 36mm carbs. The bike now runs the best it ever has; the lighter crank allows it to spin up faster, and the 36mm carbs have actually increased midrange without killing top end power. The bike is easier to ride because there isnt such a step function in power delivery; it revs up smoothly until 5500 rpm where it makes serious power until it signs off at 7800 rpm.

Sat, 1030am ride em dont hide em from the pits to a BBQ place and back. Reg. 8-10am $15 includes LUNCH. Ridin the GT500 up to camp and hang out at the VJMC areas.
