T350 kickstart not engaging

Post by bighole »

Does anyone have a kick start gear/pawls for a 1971(?) T350 they could spare? About every 3rd kick the lever doesn't engage and your leg goes straight to the ground. I have had it apart and cleaned, there didn't appear to be excessive wear. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-John
My bike is a "bighole" I keep throwing money into, so I had to get another!

John, your pawl spring might be the wrong length or may be getting weak.
That's the little coil spring that sits underneath the pawl and forces it up/out against the inside of the housing.
As well, the working edge of the pawl DOES get rounded and so do the "edges" inside of the mating "gear". Sometimes the "heel" (rounded part at the "back" end of the pawl) gets worn and is too loose a fit in the fixed part of the shaft. Just a few thoughts....
