Mike im looking at the new cable and cant see anything different with the flange lip on the outer housing but i do see the little raised collar section on the middle portion of the inner wire end is a bit wider and its longer too.
If you try the outer housing without the inner wire onto the engine does it fit?? if so the problem then could be the longer/wider raised section on the drive end piece.

Yeah, You are right. Up close I can see it is the size/dimensions of the end that goes into the oil pump housing that presents the challenge. There wouldn't be differences between models e.g. T v GT series would there? If not,( someone out there is selling T500 parts that don't fit. Problem is that I bought the cable sometime ago and can't remember who I got it from. The two cables are also quite different in length, with the old one being longer).

Mike being these bikes had various parts superceeded over the years its possible some of the parts were sort of standardised to be a "fit one fit all".
Not that this idea worked all the time but in your case its definately not quite correct for those two cables.
You could carefully remove a portion of the drive end so it fits, either from the lower end OR the upper part by the cable crimped bit so its the same length.
Recently i was going through my T500 parts stock as i was reboxing a few things and was looking at the two throttle cables i have
They both have the same part numbers but yet they are slightly different with one being about two inches longer.

Fiddly bit, gas cap assembly T500
Next tricky thing please guys.
I am refitting the rechromed gas cap (flip up) to the newly painted tank for the T500R. I've got the cap on easy enough but where/how does the little spring notch into/onto with the latch. It has tme coiled part to the spring obviously but where do you fit the two ends so they stay fitted and give tension for the flip action?
Comments/ pictures appreciated

Electronic ignition
I know this has been hammered several times over but the old posts are hard to find. Sooooooooooo
Who makes the best one for these old triples? Is there a brand that uses the stock coils? Which is the easiest to install and requires the least mods and add ons? Where to buy? (links)

Check the "hot parts" section and scroll down a little.
Marcel Vlaandere is a close friend of mine and absolutely reliable!

Do you know if that unit has a timing advance on it?
I'm just about to pick up an ignition, but am leaning towards the boyer brandson due to its timing curve....
Thanks! Arne

Hey Arne,
I have one of Marcel's kits and it's fantastic. Plug and play, set and forget.
No wire splicing, base-plate modifications or any other hassle required.
Install takes about half an hour and you never have to set points again.
It has hall-effect pick-ups so it can be set successfully with a timing light while running.
It does not have any sort of advance/retard, and I don't think the Boyer Brandsen unit does either. There's nothing like that in the points setup.
Why do you want/need any sort of advance/retard?
It's just not required on a GT motor unless you're trying to get mega HP out of it.
Try looking for a Lucas-Rita or similar if you're going racing. H2Tuner should be able to give you some advice if that's the path you want to travel.
Cheers

Plug Read
For those of you that read my thread '550 carb issues', here is an update. I got tha jets from Sudco and have them installed. I am now 3 over on the mains and 2 over on the pilots. The slide needles are still in the last groove (toward the point).
Please note this is not a clean plug chop. The fresh top end has just under 130 miles on it and I am a little reluctant to do a WOT. These pics are just after a 4 mile peppy run.
Things have definately changed. The bike idles great now and no longer falls off and dies. Set it and forget it. The slow return to idle disappears once the engine reaches temp. That's exactly opposite to the way it was. The bike pulls like freight train at 5500 rpms. That's about where I was before pulling in and stopping. This is the left and right plug. I didn't pull the center.
This first pic was indoors. The flash makes things look whiter than they really are.

This shot is taken outdoors in (very hot) sunlight.

Opinions??
