Hey guys, thanks for the help. Got the kick start lever to ratchet back up.

Yay!

But now it won't start. Guess I gotta go in and see if I snarked up the timing.

Hopefully this next weekend...

Just don't leave any sharp or square edges on any of the ports, even on the vertical sections.

Thanks, man.

Don't worry, between playing with the timing on this bike AND on the CB550K that I'm trying to restore to life, I have timing down to a science!

Even figured out how to use a timing light on it.

At least when I finally tackle that old Harley and start putting it back together, I've only got to worry about ONE points assembly for the whole engine!

You've done a great job, Joe.

I especially like the black chainguard. I'd love to do the same to mine. How did you get the paint to stick to the chrome, or have you found it chips easily?

Oil tank sight-glass question - T500

Post by Admin »

I have just bought one of the new/replacement kits from ebay. It consists of the glass, rubber ring, silver metal flange thingy and a small white nylon washer.

What does the silver flange do and what order do these things go in?

Thanks, Mike

P.S. It's been repainted and ain't purple anymore!

The silver "flange" is just a reflector for better visibility. It goes in first, followed by the rubber seal and glass. The small white washer goes under the screw head that holds the assembly in place.

Dale
I bead blasted the chrome parts at high pressure before I painted them. Then I used "etching" primer. The chain guard had some dents and wouldn't of been usable anyway.

mtellone1 wrote:Worn needle jets sound the most logical. Can those be pressed out with a wooden peg or something? I take it they would come out of the bottom of the carb?
They come out the top. Remove the main jets and the brass washers under them, then press the needle jets out. Note the locating pin in the bottom of the aluminum bore. Be careful of the air dam on the top of the needle jet. Don't try to remove the jet by grabbing that dam with a pliers, and don't hammer on it to reinstall the jet.
