bike
I presume you have a GT500? If so, both plugs fire from the same coil at the same time, also it is powered from the magneto, not the battery. I would pull both carbs and throughly check them out, also with both fuel lines disconnected, hold them in the same position as they would be if connected and turn it to 'prime' to check flow rates from both lines. I found a problem with the 'y' fitting. Yours probably does not have a 'y' fitting but flow needs to be checked anyway. Kinda like starting at the 'top' and working your way down to find the problem. Barring any fuel related problems, it could be the crank seal or 'o'ring on that side is not sealing well..... Also check both baffles, one could be partially stopped up causing undue back pressure and not allowing that cylinder from filling or exhausting the gases properly. If no luck, even check compression on both cylinders. With 2-strokes everything is inter-connected in making it run right. Let us know what you find!

Thanks for the replies and the explanation of what created the mess. I will call Mr. Miller tomorrow and try to order the parts. I would like to get the cases vapor blasted if possible while the cranks being done, may as well make them look pretty now that they're all apart.
I got a price off Suzuki Simon for a rear fender, $350 +/- depending on the exchange rate, plus shipping
oh well.

project
be carefull with the bearing races.
don't blast too much material off them.
i'd recommend hot-tank wash instead.
they don't really look that bad.
a leaking seal is a pain in the butt, but its not
something that will really screw up the bike.
make sure the oil lines are clear. you know about these I assume ?
be gentle.
why do you need a rear fender ? that one looks ok ??
welcome and have fun!

Nice decision
CJF,
Nice decision ! ( although the CB750's are pretty damn nice bikes ! )
I would agree with muzza ( even though that is kinda like stating 2+2=4.. you know your gonna be right ) ..
1 thing at a time.
Get it running and work through the problems.
mostly because you will be able to ride it and take pictures along the stage of your build. one of the coolest things about my bike is the history of pics I have cronicling its existence as a rusty bucket to the ride it currently is.
most of all, have fun... and don't beat yourself up if your ride never looks as nice as desmo's does.... looking forward to pics of progress !

just some T500 thoughts
Won a SWEET set of gsxr clip-ons and controls off evilbay!
this should solve a few problems ( like horn and blinker switches not working ) and provide me with some clip-ons.
will probably have to turn a collar or modisize the clip-ons to get them to fit the smaller tubes. not sold on swapping to clip-ons, clubmans are good.
ok.. i have a confession... i've been riding the buell a bit.. er.. a lot.. er maybe a ton. the xb9r is a really sweet ride. comfortable, lots of grunt power and really does own the corners. plus on long rides i don't feel like the engine is about ready to explode. riding the bandit at 9krpm for hours on end got nerve racking....
anyhow.. should get Titan registered and legal next month. you know what with the working blinkers and crap required of the east coast nazi patrols...

CJF,CJF wrote:Also....not sure if anyone is into obtaining a TR500 replica aluminum tank, but I contacted Peter Keyte in the UK today. He does replica tanks and seats. His price was $400 for the tank and 9$0 for the seat. The tank mounts right up to the stock T500 frame mounts. I think the price is good based on the prices I've seen for the fiberglass TR500 tanks. Now here is the kicker......he can't produce them until this fall because he is so busy. I've seen his work before and it's nice. No wonder he is so busy. I think I may need to take up classic tank building
did you order one of his tanks? Am I right to assume his tanks are aluminum, or are they fiberglass?
I have a friend that is a MASTER of putting together found aluminum into amazing art, but he is just starting to do shaping... I'm trying to pursuade him to try a tank for me.
I'm curious about ordering a Keyte tank and seat with you...
Edit:
just realized that Keyte does aluminum...
still curious if you got one..

GT380 Kickstart won't ratchet back up.
Okay, as several of you know, my clutch basket was frozen from sitting for nearly three decades.
Pulled it open, loosened them up. Put it back together, and the kickstart lever wouldn't engage the engine.
Pulled it back apart, fiddled a bit (no clue what I did differently). Put it back together, and now the kiskstart turns the engine.
But now it won't ratchet back up. Is there a spring in there that I some how lost? I didn't see one, except the one that I can't reach.
If it isn't one problem, it's three others!

easy one mate:-)
See this one I did a couple of years ago
http://auction.netbikes.com.au/vjmw.php ... age=69t250
as some one already pointed out the rear guard looks find, may be cheaper to rechrome that than buy new.
Now that you have powder coated the frame I recommend that before you refit the motor sand back one of the engine mount points to bare metal and then lightly paint it again, this should ensure a good earth fo rthe motor. I would do the same where the coils mount and the rectifier.
