GT 550 transmission vent - oil leak
Hi,
Anybody run into a problem with oil leaking from what looks like a vent fitting on the transmission (right near the filler cap) on a GT550? I just changed the oil thinking it may have been over-filled, but after putting in exactly 1500 CC’s it is still coming out of the vent hole – even after I put a length of hose on it and ran it up the frame.
Thanks,
Gary

I'm pretty sure it isn't the points cam, as the frequency of the sound doesn't match the revolutions of the lobe.
Not sure how to describe it, really. It's a tapping/clicking/clacking noise, but beyond that, dunno.
I only hear it at idle, as once I rev the engine, all the other ear-blasting sounds over power it, or maybe it just goes away.
I know there are only like 5 moving parts in this thing (a nice thing about no valve train), so figuring it out should not be too difficult.
Hmmm...

Help from the obssessional T500 folk please
Slowly, slowly, I am getting bits back on the bike. I need a bit of clarification from the obssessional guys - you know with the picky, finer points of restoring.
1) Did the T500R (1971) have a CCI sticker on the oil tank? I've just noticed that on the original brochure I have, there doesn't seem to be one. So, is it that no T500R had a sticker or did different markets have or not have them?
2) I was reading the Haynes manual (for a change
) when putting the new front sprocket in. I noticed a picture showing a spacer over the gearchange shaft (part# 09180-12021). My bike didn't have one in place. Doesn't seem to be one here in little old NZ and Reiner doesn't have any. So my question: how important or necessary is this little piece? If it's vital, does anyone know where a NOS/good used one might be lurking?
3) I'm about to install the new grey throttle cable. What is the correct/original routing from the handle bar down to under the tank? Also, any helpful advice for connecting it properly?
Finally, for those following my paint saga - I bit the bullet and went back to the painter. He was really good about it and is going to respray at no cost. Should be ready in 3 weeks - hopefully it'll be a lot closer now. (This is my obssessional bit. Loved the purple in the sunlight but just couldn't bring myself to mount it on the bike
)
As usual, many thanks for any help/ideas.
Mike

Mike ive checked the parts book and it shows a CCI decal as first fitted to the T500 oil tank in 71.
As for the cable routing you'll have to consult a manual that shows wire harness and cable routing to get the correct factory placemement, sorry i dont hve one but H2Rick may so P.M him
However usually the smoothest and cleaneast route is the best for cables.
Finally,, the little roller on the shift shaft was placed there for chain rub issues and to prevent any damage to the shift shaft if the chain got slack and wasnt maintained.
You can make one as its nothing special, just make sure it fits the shaft neatly and is wide enough so it can just spin when the sprocket covers on the engine.

Picked up my first T500
It looks like a '75 T500-M, but the VIN plate indicates mfg in 8/74. Seems like everything’s original. She’s got 4,800 miles. Got it from the Denver-area and it's now here with me at nearly sea-level. (PO never touched the carbs and he got it from Michigan about 8 years ago.) I don’t have a lot of tools, nor a workshop, but loads of desire to own and ride this bike.
It’s running, but not like a top. Intake system is complete, rubbers are fairly pliable, and air filter is clean, plugs look medium/dark brown and dry. With the bike I didn't get the original Owner's Handbook, but I got a Suzuki Parts List book and the blue-cover Haynes manual with the picture of a T-500M - the book’s entitled: “Suzuki 500 Twin - All Models - 492cc - 1968 onâ€
