Daytona Vintage races 3 - 4 March anyone

Post by Admin »

Will anyone heading to the Vintage races be camping?? I have permission from the boss to attempt the ride down on my RD400. Got my tent and hoping to share a camp site (and cost of course! Beer?)? Thanks hope to get down this year. Been a while. Thanks loads. Dofin

Track Day ThunderHill April 5th

Post by Admin »

All signed for Keigwins@theTrack for ThunderHill on April 5th. This should be lots of fun with Ralph Spencer (desmocat) on his AHRMA X-6 and me on my cafe GT250. Now I just have to get the bike finished up and myself ready to go!

Woo Hoo!

Kevin,

Excellent news. I'm in same situation as you, need to get my X-6 finished to ride. Let's see, other than the engine top end needing assembling, there's:

- rebuilding the front end
- installing chain/sprockets
- wiring the electrical system
- mounting the cowling
- cleaning the gas tank insides
- painting

I'm getting depressed!!!!!

Oh, come one....

Post by Admin »

Now Ralph, that's nothing!

Rearsets
Wiring
Seat Mounts
Seat Cover
Steering Damper Mount
Speedometer Mount
Rear Stand
Oil Tank
& Battery!

And I can't even START on it until my Mini Cooper motor is in one piece instead of one million!

I am heading to the East Bay today to borrow a set of leathers from my buddy, so I'll have that off the checklist. And if I get moving today I think the Mini engine might make it into the ~50 parts territory, so I do have hope...

Getting There!

Post by Admin »

Ralph, how's the X-6 coming? I got my rearsets done, seat attached and foam carved. If anyone is making a cafe style seat with really thin foam, buy Temperfoam, it is a heat activated "memory" foam. Incredible stuff. Two layers 1/2" thick and it is amazingly comfortable. Need to make my battery tray and do the wiring. Then a few more loose ends and I think it is done. I got insurance on the bike today, and am mailing my registration so I can do some runs before I head up to ThunderHill.

Regarding rearsets, the only way I could get it all to work was to flip the shifter upside-down, which means I now have 1up-5down (GP style) shifting. Not sure how to make it work otherwise, but I don't think I'll have too much trouble adapting to it either.

I'm going to go on Sunday with my T500. I was hoping to make a weekend out of it, but work is getting in the way :x

Do they have any special parking areas for people with vintage bikes, or do we just park in the normal lot?

You just park where you want to park, no special place. See you there.

It is ALIVE!!

Post by Admin »

12:02 Wednesday morning. After fighting a wiring gremlin or two, kicked it over on the third try and fired up. I shut it down immediately for fear of waking my wife and the neighbors, but it runs! 6 years after a rebuild I thought would take "a few months." Murphy's law of projects: Take the time estimate, double it. Move up one time unit. So, three months, 6 years, right on schedule!

Have a short list to complete before Saturday, but it runs. I'm so psyched!

Kevin,

I've got a few more things to complete on the X-6 but should have it done Thursday night. Haven't fired it up yet, still got to route fuel lines and oil lines, install grips, number plates, safety wire, stuff like that.

Looking forward to getting back on the track especially riding with another 250cc Suzuki stroker.

I'll be there!! Leaving Monday(?), depends on the weather. It's been snowing on and off and I'm riding the 6fiddy VStrom down. May need to wear my snowmobile gear to get out of the mountains. It was 6 this morning!
