T500 Racer

Hi Guys, Thanks for the comments on my project. Can't wait to get it up and running but I will keep posting new pictures every week until it's done.

Eric, I will put a swing-arm on it as soon as I can make a batch up. Yours should be in that batch too.

All the Best, Robert

Rear Sets?

Post by Admin »

How did you make the rearsets, specifically the levers? It looks like 1/4" thick aluminum welded to a small tube section. I'm in the middle of doing the same, and was going to water jet cut the levers but wasn't going to use the tube section. Did you make them yourself, or get them somewhere?

Thanks. Nice bike.

Hi Kevin,

I used the water jet to make these also, love that machine. Anyway, I used 3/8" thick aluminum and welded it to a short tube section that I made on the lathe 1 1/8"ID 1 13/8"OD with a bushing pressed inside (mc master carr part)
this all pivots around the foot peg that I made with a step down to the 7/8"ID
of the bushing. Simple really, just let me know what other questions you might have.

Thanks, Robert

Hey Robert,

That bike is going to be too pretty to race! Nice!!! Do you have rubber bushings or grommets between the rear-sets and the chambers? I know Desmocat was having trouble with the chamber mounts breaking loose off the pipe and was able to cure it using rubber muffler mounts. Maybe you can head off potential trouble before it happens?

Hi,

thanks for the tips. I am aware of the exhaust needing some rubber mounting. I made the plates on the water jet without rubber so I had a definitive mounting location when making the pipes but still haven't decided on how I am going to mount them in the final stage of assembly.

That's awesome. Its got a license plate, so it mustof been on the road at some point too!

It would be wild to see (and hear) that thing go by on the street!

What kind of pipes are those?

Similar plans

Post by Admin »

Sounds about the same as what I'm doing for mine. I'm working with 1/4" on the water jet, and was not planning a welded tube section. It is so easy to draw up parts on SolidWorks and send the files off to the jet cutter. I have a flanged bronze bushing on 3/4" diameter, and a bronze washer for the back side. Should be good. The Brake lever is identical, and I've replaced the cable with a straight pull-rod.

As for pipe mounting, the Ocelots mount directly to the peg, so I'm thinking I may have the same issues Ralph had with breaking the mounts. Possible to cut that and rubber mount in between. I'd like to get it finished, then deal with that.
