confirmed entries for Mid-Ohio

Post by Admin »

Due to unforseen snags for many of the probable entrants the number of enytries has been somewhat depleted. But we will carry the flag proudly while the rest of the gang catches up and my possibly race at Barber this October.

Ralph Spencer
John Cooper
Eric Kalamaja

Anyone else entered let me know.

Hey Eric,

Isn't Krash racing this year? What happened to Otis? Plus there was one other person you were building a bike or engine for?

On the plus side, for next year there should be a nice "second string" effort - myself, Mowgli, maybe Ogri? I wonder if we can coax Angry Gopher out of retirement? I know where there's an ex-Sundial machine in semi-retirement that just needs a rider......

Ever since Krash moved away from the Campground, I haven't heard much from him. I do hope he comes to Mid-Ohio as he is quite the fixture there now.

Tim Mickleson will be there on his other bikes, just not the T500 as there is yet too much to do on it. Maybe Barber.

Otis bike is not done and too much to do yet, plus the race school was $450 and catered to superbikes. So Barber for him too. But he will be at Mid-Ohio.

Mowgli, similar problems with race school and liscensing.

It happens, life just seems to get in the way of all the fun we want to have.

Look forward to seeing you all there and I will be one up an all of you slowpokes by Barber races.

Krash is not entered, just checked the pre-entries. Only one other T500 entered and I do not know the person riding it. So 4 T500s on the grid. Not bad.

Got to Formula 500 and Formula Vintage.

Straight from the Krash-meister himself:

Up until last week my plan was to race Mid-Ohio, but I ended up having to scrap it at the last minute. The VRRA round at Mosport is the weekend directly after Mid-Ohio, and I am currently leading the championship points lead (with 2 events left to go). I couldn't justify the wear and tear and risk to the bike racing at Mid-Ohio when I am so close to winning a championship. I missed winning it by 2 points in 05 and was hurt in 06, so this is a pretty big deal to me. It's also hard to justify the $500 in gas it was going to cost to get there, so for the first time in 7 years I will miss Mid-Ohio. I'm not happy about it, but Suzi and I will be there next year, we are also thinking about running Barber this year, as the VRRA series will be over in September.

End quote. Sounds like we need to takeover Barber this year! One thing to note is the school at Barber is run by Ed Bargy. They get $375 prereg or $385 walk-in for the one day class.

We could chase licenses through WERA at Summit Point or Nelson - there are races at each well before October. $100 for membership, $60 for race school, then at least one race (Barber doesn't have the two race requirement of Mid-Ohio) for $75/85.......

Looks like I'll have to see if I can make it to Barber. Biggest hurdle will be finding bike shipping, time to start asking around.

You won't regret racing at Barber. Nicest and most fun track I have been to.

Thanks Eric. Things are shaping up fairly well this year, but it's been a crazy one. I don't want to say too much because I am afraid of jinxing the whole thing!

Desmocat's Mid-Ohio Race Report

Post by Admin »

I had a good time at Mid Ohio, finished (not last) in both F-500 and F-Vintage races. There were three Suzuki T500's on the grig for F500, it was fun racing against a machine of like type.

Since last year here I swapped Jemco chambers for Swarbricks which provide a more mid-range profile, this helped smooth out and spread the powerband, I now make power from 5-8K RPM's.

I got my jetting dialed in by changing needles with a leaner taper, this really helped with low to mid range power, something my engine previously lacked.

T500 racer John Cooper and I had some good scraps in F500, in both races I held him off until last lap where I got passed in turn 11...couldn't reel him back in again thru turn 13 (my worst turn). I did manage to cut 5 seconds off last years lap times.

All in all was a great race weekend, no broken parts, no broken bones. It was fun seeing old friends and meeting new board members.

Next Year's T500 Race Bike

Post by Admin »

After talking to Eric, Keith, and John about shortening the T500's wheelbase to promote quicker handling, I've decided to embark upon a new T500 project for the 2008 AHRMA season.

Following in Zook-e's footsteps, next season I've decided to completely change the chassis, going to drop my sweet running T500 engine into a modified RD350 chassis to quicken up handling a bit.

Eric, I believe you used a GT380 swingarm?

Getting ready for Miller/Sandia

Post by Admin »

Got the bike re-jetted for high altitude, trailer packed, I'm leaving Wednesday night for Miller in SLC. Pre-entiries show only 4 bikes on grid in F-500, guess I can't come in worst than fourth!

Sandia has 5 pre-entries for F-500, another small grid.

I'll be carring the flag for Sundial Moto Sports, wish me good fortune.

Report from Friday practice day, not a great one. Developed another crack in a weld on my right expansion chamber, that cut the day short after 2 sessions. Andrew Cowell will weld the pipe tonight so I'll be ready for racing on Saturday.

Miller is a really technical track, 15 turns in 2.2 miles, very short front straight and no really fast corners. Going out in the first session I kept waiting to be back on the front straight but kept having corners at me.

Weather is beautiful here, low 80's with low humidity.

I'll give report sor races on Sat/Sun.
