Howdy Adam. No source for Rods Yet.I'm working on it Slowly though.I have one of Jims Here to Measure by just Haven't had a chance to Order Our Last Hope.Hopefully a Rod from a Mid 70's TM250 PE250 RM250 will work.Adam wrote:OK, I've got the bike bug again....
I'm planning the motor I want to build for my race project. I'm going with the Swarbrick pipes and Zook-e's porting to match. My plan is to definitely give a big boost to horsepower, but not so much that i'm on the ragged edge of blowing up.
I want to have everything planned out before anything gets cut. What size/style/brand carbs would be best suited for this application? Besides porting, what other machining work would give the best results for my application? I'm planning on keeping the bike lighted so I can ride it (though not nearly as practically or economically I know) on the street.
Also, does anyone have a source for connecting rods? After my fiasco with that crank rebuilder, I'd like to get a new set for the crank... Thanks!!

Tad,
You're not too big to race a T500. Just build a bike and come out and have fun.
You can read the rules for Formula 500 at http://ahrma.org/rulebook/index.htm.
Keep in mind you don't have to build a full out GP spec machine, but a slightly modified T500 will do. The T500 can also be raced in Formula Vintage, which I've had more fun racing than F-500.

Just out of curiosity, what would the upper limit be weight wise on a T500 before common sense knocks silly dreams of racing out of your short fat middle aged head? At what point on the density scale do you start looking like a monkey mating a football?desmocat wrote:Tad,

Hey Krash - How many teeth on your primaries?
Hey Krash,
I have a shop here that possibly can make straight cut gears. I have a rough idea of the number of teeth on the primaries for both the clutch and output but I was hoping you could confirm it for me?

And so, it begins.............
The transformation of this T500 into my race bike......


Zooke and I came to a mutually beneficial agreement, and I became the new owner of this T500. I'm really stoked about putting together a nice race bike. It is going to be a great learning experience as I have never done anything like this before. I'm sure I will make some mistakes and will appreciate direction.
Zooke has helped me lay out a good plan to put together a strong base. I have a shorter swinger from a 250 that will make it's way onto the back end. I have a set of GT750 forks and front wheel that I plan to rebuild and install on the T500, as well as a rear rim that I plan to lace onto the GT750 hub (Thanks Tim)for the front.
The rest of my plans are kind of weak at the moment until I get settled in my new job and get our current home sold and another one purchased in the Chattanooga area. But, when things get rolling, I have MUCH to do.
The current plan is to make it to the races with the group at Mid Ohio. Hopefully, I can make it happen.

TR500 and TR750 replica parts
I just recentlly had a conversation with someone who had posted on the North American Two-stroke Board. He is planning on selling TR500 and TR750 replica frames, tanks and seats. Also some other parts as well.
There is a resurgance of these particular bikes in Europe on the racing front. And he has also had conversations with AHRMA on these bikes as well.
He has conversed with Hurley Wilvert and Dave Crussell who ride H1Rs and H2Rs. AHRMA is like Moo had mentioned have a sort of Demonstration on these bikes at Willow for those who want to come out and race them. He is also trying to get the same done at Barber for these bike. He has been talking to Cindly Cowell and Will Harding. AHRMA has to go forward and to allow the bikes to race.
He is also talking to Weisco to have pistons made and not in limited runs but continuous runs. Nova I understand is going thru with close ratio transmissions and straightcut gears again.
Compared to other exotics. The TR series are so close to the street bikes that they are infact less cost extensive though still not cheap. They have quite a following.
So anyone interested please post on the North American Two-stroke Board in the Suzuki section to help expedite this along.

I sent Russ an email. I signed up for the other board but my email is at it again and I haven't gotten the confirm email back from the board yet.
As it turns out he's about 60 miles away from me here in NJ! Plus there's a good British brew-pub in his town. A couple of fresh pints, a steak and ale pie, and talking to another vintage bike nut about Suzukis??? How could it get any better?!?!

Inexpensive race stand recommendations?
All,
I was thinking about all of the support equipment I'll need for a racing effort and a must have is a inexpensive but decent race stand. I found these that Vintage Cosmo are selling on ebay:

And they look okay but I was wondering if there is a better deal out there?
Any recommendations?
