Make sure that the screws aren't overtight. And, just for chuckles, try a new crushable washer on the main drain plug.

I've been through this before, and done exactly what you've done, and the washer is what it turned out to be.

gear indicator switch leak

Post by Admin »

Man, right now I'm just about up for anything. How can a drain plug leak get oil up into the little sump thats just below the switch? When I pull the side cover off, there's always a little puddle collected there, and the switch itself has trans oil on it.

Try this, then; clean the whole bottom area, and then put the bike on the centerstand overnight. (When it leans on the sidestand, the oil migrates to the left side case). It's even worth it to pull the pipes.

Then, see where the oil drops on the floor.

gear indicator switch leak

Post by Admin »

Thats whats wierd. The thing won't leak unless it's ridden. It sat since Saturday until today with no leak, but I rode it to work (about 7 miles), and it had a drop hanging from the weep hole under the switch, and three or four drops on the ground. When I left home it was dry.

GT750 tapered steering head bearings

Post by Admin »

Gudday,
Anyone know what tapered bearings to get to replace the ball bearings in the GT750 steering head? I have a very helpfull and well priced bearing shop nearby but I just wondered if anyone knew what ones to get or what sizes?

If they are anything like the kawasaki's you will need to order the kit. Standard tapered bearings don't fit.

Yep, I tried. One of them was quite standard, but the other wasn't. I bought the kit from PartsNMore.com.

There is a seal that the shaft goes through behind the switch. It's number 6 on the "gear shifting" parts fiche.

I don't know what it would take to replace the bearings on a stock bike, but I used Pro-Flo.com to get the bearings for putting the GSXR triples on the Mighty Buffalo.

gear indicator switch leak

Post by Admin »

Yeah. I've replaced that seal three times. The first one got squished because the bearing had apparently walked out slightly and the switch squashed it when I tightened it up. Come to think of it, that's probably what cracked the original switch. I tapped the bearing back slightly, and the seal slipped right in with almost no resistance. Is the opening on the back of the seal supposed to fit over the end of the bearing to give it some tension?

Thanks for the input Guys.
I'm going to go to the bearing shop with measurements. Stay tuned. 50 bucks for two bearings is highway robbery!! I don't care so much about seals, riding in the rain sucks anyway!!

Electrical Question

Post by Admin »

I pulled my headlamp of the 750K in order to remove and reinstall the handlebar switches and putting everything back together I noticed that coming out of the Ignition lock cylinder there are two wires that are not connected to anything. One of them is red and one is orange they are single wires with a single male connector on one and a single female connector on the other. I tried to look at the wiring diagram and it shows a red wire going to a fuse and then splitting off and going to the rectifier and starter switch. The orange wire I cannot tell on the diagram where it goes. My problem is there is nothing leftover in the headlamp housing to plug these into. I hope I am not missing any wiring, If someone knows let me know.

Thank you

The red one is the main hot wire in the system and there shuold be a connector for it to plug into the main harness near the headlight. The orange wire is for the "On-Off" kill switch on the right hand control.
