Re: but....
Muzza, there are 3 kinds of guys that I have to deal with at the HD shop. Motorcyclists, Snobs, and Rich Urban Bikers. I deal with each kind differently.muzza wrote:But JeffG a Sprint isn't a Harley anywya...it is an Aermacchi so you can relax at being streotyped mate...you aren't a Harley rider after all.....and anyway you have too much taste to be one.
How do you handle the Harley guys, do you pretend to be a believer!
The RUBs are simple to deal with. I just rave about the fit and finish of HD...which legitimitally deserves it. HD makes some beautiful bikes and the paint and chrome is as flawless as it can be. HD makes no issue about warranty repairs for finish.
The Snobs are hopeless. These are the guys that believe that the only real motorcycle is a Harley. I just "yes" them and get them the parts that they want. If they ask me if I have a Harley, I answer yes and if they push me, I tell them that I have an AMF (or a 1973) and that ususally gets me a "Oh" and I continue on with getting them what they want.
The Motorcyclists are the people that I have NO issue with whatsoever. These are the guys who came up on Suzukis, Kaws, Yamahas, etc and are now in the HD stage of their lives. They like ALL bikes. When I ride to work, there are always several comments made about whatever bike I rode that day. All have been positive so far except for when I ride my RD350. That one brings comments like "that runs?" and "how can you ride that and not be embarassed?" The RD350 is rustier than many bikes in junkyards. There is no chrome left.

I actually had the most problems with Bings as on my Maicos,Hard to start until you figured out the procedure(Hold tickler down with one hand until fuel runs out overflow hoses, plug off overflow hoses with other two hands for a few seconds, rock bike back and forth in gear to prime cylinder, kick through with enthusiasm, pray for no kickback)jetting was never quite right(always did better if you left 'em fat enough to blubber on bottom.
My Ossa Pioneer's IRZ was always out a wack,I was young and couldn't get myself to stop messin' with those twin needles, seemed like they had so much potential, likely just too worn out when I got the bike.
