GT 380 - Set timing after dismantle (accent ignition)

Post by Nissern »

Hi.
New to the forum and the triples ;)

So, i finaly got my accent ignition in the mail, rushed to the bike and started the work.

Took off the ignition plate, and then i noticed the star timingplate where not in the right position.
After a closer look i saw that the metal tip was gone.
So now its just wigling on the axel.

So my question is, can i just allign the marks? axel -> timing plate and then the new cam part?

Or do I have to locate and align some other marks?

Thanks

Prolly have to tune the ignition de be optimal.

The bike did backfire trought exhaust and the carb.
Thats totaly gone now with the new Accent electric ignition =DD

Just waiting for my Higgspeed pipes and its complete =)

Hi and welcome.

Remember that the marks on the timing rotor are not accurate, they are really only intended to help ensure that you replace the points cam in the correct position if you remove the side cover. They are usually not too far wrong, but to get the timing 100% correct you really need to use a dial gauge.

My old GT380M ran best with the timing set at 2mm BTDC on each cylinder.
1976 GT380 - wounded by me, and sold on
2006 SV650S - killed by a patch of diesel and a kerb in Feb 2019
2017 SV650 AL7 - naked and unashamed

Got the bike out on the road the other day, and i noticed it didnt pull as hard before i fithed the electric ignition.

So yes, i must tune in the ignition.
Also bought a gauge from Biltema, hopefully it will help me find TDC.

Not sure how I adjust the timingplate?

Can i just turn the ignition plate to the led light comes on after i sett 2mm TDC?

Maybe a member here have fine tuned the ignition using accent ignition who can help me on the right path?

Thanks

Hi,

Did you have to remove the Cam Lobe? Did you remove the Crankcase cover to do so? Was you Cam Lobe pressed on?

Thanks, Tony

I replaced the cam lobe with the one from accent.
I could just slide it out with my fingers, after i took off the point plate and loosen the nut.

I said earlier it didnt pull like it should.
had a look at the spark plugs, and found out that the Left sylinder has no spark.
Center and right was all good.

Could i have mounted it wrong?
Or is there somthing wrong with the ignition from Accent, since Center and Right have spark, and i can fire it up with the kickstarter.

Anyone got a qlue?

Also gone check with Uwe at accent.
