GT380 how quieten Noisy exhausts?

Post by sportston »

So I've been riding my GT380 with the Higgspeeds on. They are way too loud. I was hoping the GP style silencers would be a bit quieter than the shotgun style. They are so loud I cannot hear my wife through the intercom. A blessing some may say, but I would like to fit a different set of end cans with a smaller bore, in an effort to make it slightly more manageable.
Anyone got any suggestions?
I've seen the universal offerings on ebay from china for about £15 each but they don't look old style.
Does anyone know of some cool-looking alternatives without breaking the bank?

Are the GP-style cans repackable? The period JR pipes I had on my 380 were much quieter after I did a proper repack of the baffle tubes. I put a layer of medium-grade wire wool around the baffle tubes, then wrapped that TIGHT with proper silencer wadding from my local bike shop, secured with garden wire.

It left the music intact but took away the razor-sharp edge of the noise.

Hi I have Higgspeeds with GP ends on and thought they were quite loud when I first used them (running like a dog with the throttle wide open) but now, other than a dull buzzing in my ears all the time, I can barely hear them :)
No I know that doesn't help but they certainly got a lot quieter with the engine running a lot better and I'm really pleased with them.
At first I tried to get some wadding in the end cans but the way the can is made (really neat BTW) you can't get any wadding in there.
Anything you put in the cans to baffle the noise is going to restrict the flow and therefore jetting etc etc.... You may be best to give the guys a call at the factory to see if they can suggest anything....
You may have to SHOUT though :)

Have swapped them with a set of chinese universal end cans. They are much quieter, but don't look as nice and their bore is perhaps too small. Have been unable to find anything else suitable without getting a set made up specially and I can't afford that. Does anyone know what the minimum bore size should be for a 125cc?
Hadn't thought about contacting Higgy. Will give that a try.

You could measure the internal diameter of the baffle tube from the stock factory outer pipes, that'll give you a good idea.
