Yellowed Oil Tank

Post by grumpy56 »

Any suggestions for making a yellowed oil tank white again? Has anyone tried painting one and does it look natural? Thanks.

Best bet might be to get the least yellowed tank you can via eBay.
I think the GT380 & GT550 used the same oil tank. A while back I got one on eBay that looked OK & worked out fine.

Soak it in a 50/50 warm water/bleach solution for a couple of days. Avoid getting any bleach mix on anything you value (parts, clothes, skin, eyes, pets) as it'll hurt/discolour whatever it gets on. Wear 'washing up' gloves and use a nail brush or similar to scrub really stained (outside) bits. And don't put stuff back when you've done.....She will know and you'll get grief. Lots of grief.
Someone told me that a dishwasher does a good job on the outside, but we don't have one, and I understand they are a git to clean afterwards.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Try soaking the tank in Hydrogen Peroxide instead, its been known to be more effect at cleaning discoloured plastic.

Got it "good enough" between bleach and the peroxide. Appreciate the help.
