hi jab, thanks for the input. the 2 ideas i had were: make a 10mm spacer between the sidestand bracket and the frame bracket and bolt the sidestand on, just to see where it sits. if it's too low i'll bomb that idea.
or, i've got a spare frame bracket off a hacked up old frame, and i thought of welding it on much further towards the front - on the same frame rail. i've already got another crossmember to go under the engine, so it could butt up against that and weld there, as well as being welded to the bottom [main] frame rail. so it would definitely be strong enough
yet again, unfortunately i can't try that until i strip the bike down again, ready for powdercoating. i'll measure how much the spanny sits below the main frame rail and see if it will tuck in nicely or stick out - then back to square one

i suppose i could always alter the sidestand bracket, so the sidestand opens the opposite way and weld the frame bracket on the right side of the bike. so, it would have a right hand sidestand, but where's it say you can't? decisions, decisions
cheers, dd.
