Electronic Ignition T250

Hello
I was thinking of fitting electronic ignition to my T250 and I've found a company in the UK called Boyer Bransden I will phone on Monday and get a price but has any members dealt with this company or could recommend another make?

Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Boyer are popular and have been around for ages.

My 10p worth is, make sure the engine is running as it should on the standard points first, before fitting an electronic system. That way, you know you've got a good baseline to work from.

Correct. Electronic ignition will not polish a turd. Nothing wrong with points if correctly adjusted. They're on all my triples and run fine. First thing to check is that you're getting full voltage to the coils and points - strip and clean all the connections and especially the earths.

Thanks for the advice it isn't what I expected I thought that electronic ignition would be an improvement so maybe I might just fit new condensers and points and ask advice on how to time the motor.

Ha! I'm from Yorkshire and we don't spend money unnecessarily!
'Mr. Suzuki' knew what he was doing when he fitted points to his two strokes. Easy to set and work just fine on bikes that don't rev really high.
I have 'a few' GT550s on points plus GT750 on points and all run well

Points are ok, but nowhere near as reliable and user friendly as a good electronic ignition. With a decent EI you will get a stronger spark, easier starting and possibly better economy. But the biggest advantage is that you can "set it and forget it". Once correctly set up, they are practically maintenance free.
However, cheap electronic ignition systems with poor quality will not last long nor be reliable. I suggest you ignore any TAC (Transistorised Assisted Contact) systems. These were popular for a while, back in the eighties, and still use points.
Hall Effect systems are ok, as are Permanent Magnet and Optical Trigger systems. But especially on a bike you need to make sure they are designed well enough to keep any moisture away from the electronic circuitry. Be careful where and how you mount the amplifier unit. Wires need to exit from the bottom!

P.S. Boyer Bransdon systems are well-known and I have been told are reliable. However I have no first hand experience with Boyer systems. Don't get an NOS Newtronic system, they are very poor quality and have little to no waterproofing on the control unit. I am told they are better quality these days.
I bought an Accent system for mine because it doesn't require a separate control box but I haven't fitted it yet. Quality looks ok from what I have seen so far.
