Re: GT 500 FORK TUBES HELP !!!
Another option might be to upgrade to GS-series fork tube assemblies. Some sleuthing would be required to figure out which ones work.
But finding clean used GS-series assemblies will be easier.

Can they be rechromed? Or are they too far gone.

Re: GT 500 FORK TUBES HELP !!!
Difficult to do forks on the cheap. On a bike of this age there are plenty of rusty ones available but hardly any usable ones. New stanchions are fairly cheap from Paolo Tarozzi. If the rest of the forks are ok, then that might be the cheapest way of getting a usable set. Or find a set off a more modern scrap bike that will fit your yokes. I got a set off a GS400E to fit my GT380 (both 33mm). I am sure you could find something of the same diameter and approximate length as the T500, if you are willing to spend a lot of time looking.

Re: GT 500 FORK TUBES HELP !!!
I put GT750 forks on my GT500. They are a bit longer, but I just let them sit up through the clamps.
If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.
