could anyone tell me what the later model GT550 carbs are please?
I want a set for my GT380 but don't know what the model is.
If I can't get hold of a set I will have to put a set of VM34s on it but I would prefer it to look standard.

Re: gt550 carbs
Early model carbs are mounted individually. The throttle cable has a 1-to-4 split, with one line going to each of the carbs & the fourth going to the oil pump.
Late model carb are mounted as an assembly, where the carbs are attached to a top plate. The top plate has a lever mechanism that controls carb slide position. There are two throttle cables with control the lever mechanism via push/pull.
Late model carbs have a fixed spacing between the carbs. The GT550 & GT380 have different cylinder spacing. So mounting later model GT550 carbs on a GT380 is pretty much a non starter.
Forum members have mounted early GT550 carbs on GT380s. Its a pretty straightforward process that has good results. But I do not know what jetting changes are required.
Early model carbs are on J/K (1972/1973) model years.

Re: gt550 carbs
Interesting. I didn’t think about switching out the top plate.

There is always someone that comes up with a simple and ingenious solution that makes you think, "Why didn't I think of that? Its obvious!"jabcb wrote:Interesting. I didn’t think about switching out the top plate.
If only we could all see the "obvious" when we need to!!

Ah, we all have 20:20 hindsight!

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

My ass can't see a thing!

I wonder if that is why it keeps eating indicators whenever I try to manouvre through the maze of tut and bikes in my garage.
Its most annoying spending money on new indicators. Quite a bummer!
