I can see its been a while since my last update, well to be honest i've only just got the bike sorted so there hasn't been much to tell.

Charging issue ran a little deeper than first thought, however with a new rectifier and some new terminals she is now charging like a saint.

I've got a show to go to this weekend with my R36 so i'm not reckoning i'll get much riding done. But, when i do, ill post up some pics of its first proper ride out in over 20 years!

It was a great ride on saturday, next job is getting it jetted up for the higgspeeds. Its a bit boggy mid range at the moment so looking forward to getting it running spot on

Lovely bike! I had my very first pillion ride on one of those at the tender age of 5 yrs old. It brings back fond memories to see yours. My Dad's was red, but i prefer the blue of your one. I hope it gives you much joy.

So took the bike over to Mick abbey over the weekend to get the fuelling sorted. For some reason the Previous Owner had stuck a 40 pilot in the left carb and a 30 in the right. Once we changed it over the difference was night and day, a lot of issues that id had previously had stopped such as bogging at low RPM and a spluttering between 4-5k
I took it for a quick blast over to squires cafe yesterday, technically its first proper run out in over 25 years!.

The bike performed beautifully, ran sweet and was great fun to ride. I've got a little bit of clutch slip from 7-8k which needs sorting and a rev counter that seems to have a tolerance of about 2000rpm but beyond that, i'm made up!

So new year update.

I sent the fork lowers and engine casings off to paddock motorcycles to remove the corrosion and polish to a beautiful shine. They came out really well. Ill post some pictures up when i get the bike back out. The clutch slip issue was a bit more involved than i originally thought. It had got progressively worse as time had gone on to the point where anymore than 20% throttle was causing horrific slip.

The clutch had been rebuilt by a mechanic when the engine was stripped down a few years ago but for reasons only known to him he stuck an extra (original and shot) friction plate in. Got the clutch rebuilt again using fresh friction and metal plates and it runs like a champ now. I managed to source a gt250B mudguard over winter along with the correct tail light and bracket. These along with the chain guard and front mudguard have been sent off for chroming and i should be getting those back some time next month.

New wheels were the next job, got both wheels rebuilt with a new stainless rim and stainless spokes, besides needing a bit of a polish they look great and have removed some of the interesting handling characteristics the buckled rear wheel was causing.

Next job is to fit the newtronic ignition upgrade, i'm terrible with timing so i'm popping over to mick Abbey for that!

Otherwise the bike hasn't changed much over the Christmas period, plans are to take it over to the isle of man this year (off peak) with the missus on her bike.

Plans for this year are a bit sparse as im getting married but going into the winter it will be stripped down to the frame, freshly powder coated with new bearings all round and put back together again. The side panels and tank will be repainted with fresh decals and then my actual restoration will be finished. Then its just a case of enjoying riding it and keeping it going

Nice bike.

They didn’t sell the GT250C in the US because they stopped selling two stroke street bikes here.
I’ve had a T250J, GT250K & GT250A. Am curious how the GT250C compares.
