I finally found a decent left GT750 caliper on Ebay and used that. I thought I'd try the stock single caliper master cylinder first to see how it worked instead of installing the two caliper master cylinder that came with the GS caliper set. It works perfectly and I won't be changing it. The difference in stopping power with the dual disc setup is amazing. I'm pulling a sidecar on my GT550 and the upgrade was badly needed.
Should have more room for the calipers if you swap the fork tubes & mount the calipers behind the fork tubes.
GS850 calipers were designed for mounting behind the fork tubes, so this would position the bleeders in the correct location.
BAS (Bike Acquisition Syndrome) - too many bikes but have room for more
Actually, I had tried reversing the forks and there was still not clearance from the fender struts. The calipers instead just interfere with the horizontal struts on the back of the fender. It turned out quite satisfactorily just adding a left caliper from a GT750 and a rotor. I drilled the rotors and I'm very pleased with the front braking performance.
