GT750 water pump nylon drive gear

Mine is badly cracked and I'd like to replace it. There's a NOS one on Ebay for $80 by a seller out of Connecticut many of us know. Otherwise I remember a discussion on here years ago that somebody in UK was remaking them out of aluminum? What's the best source?

Josh, mine was cracked as well. I purchased the nos nylon one from the source you referenced. I was not aware of another option but am intrigued as the nylon probably gets brittle wit age.. If someone is aware of another option please let us know. Chuck

That's genuine NOS from Suzuki, or plenty of 40+ year old stuff on ebay stateside.

from what I remember all of these seem to be cracked mine has been cracked for the last 7 years, I remember a thread on here which I think I was apart of? cant remember but everyone that has taken the side cover off has found cracked gears, it seems to be normal for it just watch the tach gauge , as long as it works the gear is ok. There was a guy who used to restore these bikes for a living who advised that he had never seen one that wasn't cracked,, I bought a new one and it has been in the drawer for 7 years now , just waiting for my cracked one to actually come apart so I can replace it although it seems fine , also the same guy stated that you could replace them with a new one and in a couple of months the new ones seem to crack? does anybody remmmber this ? or maybe this Is info I got from talking to that guy ? not sure but I do recal this and not sure if it was a thread on here or I got this somewhere else but I recall everyone seemed to think this was normal,,,,,not saying don't change it just stating that according to that guy (don't recall his name) this is pretty normal for the gear and the new nylon one will probably crack within so many months,,,,,,,anybody want to comment on this? this is the only reason I didn't change mine 7 years ago,,,but if its better to change it I will,,,,just hate to crack a new one and end up in the same boat without a replacement one....

Thanks for the input thus far guys. Alan, looks like your source may be the best price depending on shipping timing/cost. Eddie, That's good to know if the new gear will likely crack in short time too. Unfortunately mine looks worse now then when I checked it 5 years ago, so I think it's time. I may hold onto the old one too as another spare part to bring along on trips.

I have since ordered one from Connecticut. The UK route seemed about 25% less expensive though I could not get the shipping function to work to the States, and it wouldn't have arrived until after the riding season in any case.

Get 2 then you have a new spare 'just in case'.
Maybe I should get one as I have just bought a GT750B to go with several GT550s (no problems with cooling pump drives there!)

These gears are still available new from Suzuki everywhere except in the USA for some reason. It is not a bad idea to have one on the shelf, although often the original one has lasted 40+ years so I would not call it a problem item.

The local price here is $55.40 CAD (so £32.40 GBP or $42.00 in USD). For our States side friends, then I think they may be able to mail order them from fortnine.ca in Quebec (try this link). To order I suspect you would have to call them, as their shopping cart only seems to handle Canadian addresses. In the UK - any Suzuki dealer can get them - Discount Spares lists them for £35.14 which is very close to the price here in Canada.

now I'm thinking maybe I should check to see what mine looks like now its been 7 years,,,,,,if it looks the same I'm leaving it, but if it does look worse then ill replace it, just hate taking the cover off just to look

No Eddie. Don't look. That's what cracks them. I never heard of one cracking when the motor was running and yet they are all cracked when the cases are opened. That empirical data suggests that it is opening the case that causes them to crack. It's probably UV exposure......

Damn, thanks TZ ! I really didn't want to open that damn thing up , glad I read this 1st , well I checked mine maybe twice in 7 years and it had a crack completely down one side , I was not taking the cover off to look at it but to fix other stuff and always wondered about it and that's when it was said somewhere that pretty much all of them seem to be cracked or crack after being replaced either way , so I just left it and it's had that crack for 7 years now but then again I don't ride her as much as I used to so that might be what's saving me who knows , Damn Japanese are pretty smart making it pressure sensitive to case removal knowing you will have to buy another one once you remove the case , not to sure about the uv ray thing TZ but the case removal thing seems a little more believable

I received the nylon gear today from Connecticut and it was in sealed modern Suzuki packaging so it appears he is buying in bulk from out of Country and selling individually on Ebay for a small profit; fine by me. Glad it does not seem to be NOS found in a closed dealership as the listing said.
