Kick start lever pin broke
While starting my gt750 with the kick starter (battery low) it kicked back on me and the kick lever stopping pin must have broke because the lever goes all the way forward so I'm going to have to split the cases. So my question is can I split the cases without pulling the cylinders off or will I have to do a complete tear down.

Re: Kick start lever pin broke
Sounds like tough luck, there. You might first try draining the gearbox oil and taking off the clutch cover on RHS. It may be something has come adrift regarding the kick start under there. There is a catch plate to prevent the kick start lever going too far forward. If the lever still has spring tension, then that hasn't broken and if so you may not need to be digging in too far!
Good luck,
Mike

I pulled the clutch cover off and the spring was a little mangled but everything looked fine, after looking back at some pictures and an extra kick start assembly I also came to the conclusion that the catch plate is bent out of place so I still have to split the cases.

Re: Kick start lever pin broke
The catch plate is a simple piece of thick, shaped steel and held in place by two bolts and a tab washer. If its just that, you should be able to remove, fix and replace, perhaps? if the kickstart shaft still has spring action, please don't split the case! the shaft needs to be tensioned then the catch piece on the shaft rests on the bend in the catch plate so it returns with just enough spring tension. The procedure is in the manual.
Obviously you're right if the shaft just goes round and around and there is no spring tension inside the case.
Cheers,
Mike
