T500 Cracked Exhaust Hanger
I had an interesting one today. On my way to work, travelling at a reasonable pace I noticed a sudden increase in exhaust noise.
As it turned out, the right hand exhaust hanger had cracked right across and the exhaust had fallen off. Fortunately, the exhaust then slid across the road and on to the verge, didn't damage any of the vehicles coming the other way and didn't get too damaged itself.
I checked the one on the other side and that has started to crack around the bolt holes too.
The bike does vibrate above 3500 rpm, this seems to have been noted in various road tests, but searching on here, no one appears to have had the same problem as me. Am I being a bit unlucky?

Are the hangers rubber mounted?

Not on a T500 as standard
As far as I know.
I'm having thoughts about putting rubber O-rings on both sides of the hangers to relieve them of vibration

Same happened at at the TT. I nearly got torpedoed when the spanny got spat off!
He's just had it properly welded and clamped the joint to the downpipe as it was only a slip joint.

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

No we'd already done that. Took nearly three hours to do a lap, but we stopped for dinner, then an ice cream, then pics, you know how it is!
It popped in Douglas, going down Ballaquayle Road into town centre - near the bottom of the start finish straight.
We're going back for another try in August, but this time we'll both be on triples - he's taking his Kettle and hopefully I'll be on this;

Now running and nearly done.
More details if you really want!

Providing you pass a few four strokes, that's all that matters!

Note the none standard exhaust hanger on the T500 - taken after the attempted rocket attack on me!
(This was taken at the IOM Classic TT last year.)

Re: T500 Cracked Exhaust Hanger
Cracking across the hangers is not at all uncommon, I have a pair of silencers, one has broken and has been badly repaired, the other has a hairline crack between the two mount holes.

Re: T500 Cracked Exhaust Hanger
Thanks Mencie - it's just I hadn't seen it on any forum before. I did wonder whether my bike vibrated more than normal (not ridden another one) and hence the problem was unusual
