UK Registration filling in V55/5 for a T500

Post by akendall1966 »

Any pitfalls to watch for when filling in the form? I understand most of the 'modern' type approval stuff can be left blank by inserting the magic phrase 'exempt by Age' into section 50(?) on side 2. But what about other physical stuff, weight and wheel base, or any other must haves?

Got the wheel plan, taxation class, manufacturer, make, model, colour, capacity, frame and engine numbers filled (top 1/3 of page 1), Its the bottom 2/3s I am a bit sketchy on.

Don't want my application to get bounced by the man.

Its an import 1970 MkIII so age related plate, rather than recovering a lost registration is the aim of the game. Got the dating cert covered via the VJMC, so it getting the form right that bothering me.

Drop me PM with your email address and I'll send you a copy of the V55 I sent to DVLA when I did the GT550.

I joined this lot

http://suzukiownersclub.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Got my age related "certificate" from them and followed various instructions as to how to fill out the V55 - it sounds like Alan had no problem so I suggest following his lead, but for me it was quite straightforward.

The only pain (which will be worse now they have closed a number of the local offices) was lugging the bike to the local office, in office hours obviously, so a very nice chap could spend three minutes checking my engine number and frame number against my form (cost me a fair few bob in trailer hire and beer and diesel for my mate to get me there). Two weeks later the V5 had arrived.

Yes looked at them, VJMC charge £35 for a non-member opposed to £50 for the suzuki OC, no real desire to join either for me. So going with the cheaper option.

Last bike I did I went to the Peterborough DVLA office in person and it took about 2 hours, walked out with a tax disc and a certificate to authorize someone to make up the number plate, was riding the bike later that afternoon. That was an ex army bike so came with its release papers, so avoided any inspection.

I have got a trailer, so if I get summoned to present the bike its time and fuel but not overly difficult. But given the DVLA scrapped Vehicle Identity Checks last year and at over 10 years old and restored rather than rebuilt from parts the MSVA shouldn't apply. I am hoping its just a paperwork exercise with fees of course.

I think the VIC applied to insurance write offs, not old vehicles - happy to be proved wrong

The MSVA I seem to remember was again for newer vehicles

This stuff pissed me off quite a lot because I lost half of my first summer messing about with this lot rather than getting the miles

Anyway best of luck, :-)

My 550 was a US import back in 2011 and it took 3 years to get it done. Just got a dating cert from VJMC and sent all the stuff to DVLA after I MOT'd and insured the bike on the chassis number (Peter James Insurance is very good and inexpensive, plus don't charge to change to a reg. number when you get one).
Got the stuff back a fortnight later all done. Didn't have to take the bike anywhere, but I did put plenty of pics in the envelope with all the other docs.

VJMC isn't bad value really.
You get discount on your insurance, cheaper dating cert for members, shows, magazine etc.
And if you support them by joining, there's a better chance they'll be there if you ever want another dating cert!
