T500 Crankshaft O-Rings
I'm in process of assembling a more street oriented replacement engine for the Repli-Racer instead of the full race version currently installed. Been able to build up this engine with parts mostly I have on hand, guess at times it's good to be a collector (hoarder?).
So I go to install the crankshaft from one that I had rebuilt several years ago, it was still in the unopened package from being rebuilt it in 2009. Once set in place, I had this moment of realization that the crankshaft O-Rings were missing from the bearing carriers. Guess this wasn't the best rebuild job?
Now I need to order O-Rings and find someone else to split the crank so the inner O-Rings can be installed.
Any suggestions as to who is doing crankshaft rebuilding at this time?

This might get the troops wound up, but what about giving the bearings a thin coat of case sealant? On clean surfaces of course.

I have been told you can fit those O-rings by VERY carefully stretching them over the crank. I have not seen this actually done I will add. You could always experiment with an old O-ring and see how you get on.

I've also heard that you can cut new o-rings with a razor blade, wrap around the bearings then glue the ends back together with SuperglueZunspec4 wrote:I have been told you can fit those O-rings by VERY carefully stretching them over the crank. We do exactly that in the industrial world on occasion.

Re: T500 Crankshaft O-Rings
On my old GT500 I managed to stretch it over the rod, it's a bit of a heart stopper but it can be done.
Make sure you do it as swiftly as possible to ensure the o-ring isn't permanently stretched.

If what's been previously mentioned fails to work, Bill bune in Minnesota rebuilds cranks. He did mine a few months ago.

Hey Desmocat
Temecula Motorsports has the crank o-rings for $1.63. Buy a half dozen and see if you can successfully stretch them over the rods. Part number 09280-76001
Failing that:
Bill Bune

or
Wisconsin Recreational Crankshaft
5049 East County Trk B
54880 Superior
WI
PH (715) 399-8868
So I guess taking the crank back to the initial rebuilder is not an option?
You going to make it to mid-O this year?

Re: T500 Crankshaft O-Rings
I ordered the O-Rings and proved today they can be installed even with the crank fully assembled. It was a literal stretch over the con rods, but mission accomplished.
Thanks for all the inputs.

Jim I will be at Mid-O this year, at this point not racing the T500 but maybe the T20. Need to rip the Hustler apart to determine why it won't stay in sixth gear.diamondj wrote:You going to make it to mid-O this year?
