Hey there,
I recently purchased a 1968 Cobra as a bit of a project to keep me busy this winter (engine and frame #13512). The bike hasn't ran since the late 70s and the engine is seized, so I'm contemplating a rebuild. It looks like a PO may have had the left head off at some point and that head also has a couple broken fins. Anyhow, if I were to get into the engine I would probably replace it. So my question is: does the replacement head have to come from a 1968 Cobra, or are there other T500s that are compatible?
I'm a ways away from pulling the heads, but I've been checking ebay to get an idea of price and availability. It looks like T500 heads are pretty common, but 'Cobra' not so much.
Thanks for the help. I'll post some updates as things progress.
Dave

Re: Cobra Heads
Cylinder heads are all the same, from the Cobra up to the Gt500, same part number for all years.

Re: Cobra Heads
That's what I thought. In that case, it shouldn't be hard to find a replacement head locally (northern Saskatchewan).
Thanks for the help.

You can use http://www.ozebook.com/compendium/T500parts/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to see which parts were used in which years.
I'm restoring my third '68 Cobra. Great fun. Best of luck with yours.
