Hey guys, picked up a 72 gt 750 I have an extra 74 crankshaft on hand and read a little about the later cranks being better than the 72 cranks, haven't torn down the engine yet and was thinking of having the 74 crank rebuilt and swap it out in place of the 72 this is to save a little time since I have the 74 crank sitting around , can I swap these crankshaft out right or is there some mods that I should know about or just have the 72 crankshaft rebuilt and not worry about any modifications.

Re: Gt 750 crank
On my early 73 gt750 that had the early crank,I replaced with one out of a 74,I had to use 74 pistons, and the washers that go between the piston and connecting rod.

Re: Gt 750 crank
I would rebuild the 74 as well. Just follow the instructions as Dave listed.

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Thanks for the information, not sure if I want to rebuild 2 cranks I'll have to think about that.

Re: Gt 750 crank
Later cranks are better than early ones but must be used with later pistons - which happen to be what's generally available.
You can keep the old crank for back up, but few parts interchange. Bearings are teh same and crank pins, but rods and crank cheeks are different.
