GT250 vs T500 rearsets

Post by jabcb »

The T250, T350 & GT250 are pretty much the same in many ways.
Nice rearsets are available for the T500/GT500 but not for the T250/T350/GT250.

Happened to have a T350 beside a T500 and noticed interesting similarities.

The T350 uses 1 bolt to mount the exhaust & the T500 uses 2 bolt.
Comparing the T350 bolt location to the rear-most T500 bolt location, I noticed:
1) the distance between the brake pedal pivot point & exhaust mount bolt is about the same.
2) the distance between the shift lever shaft & exhaust mount bolt is about 1/2” longer on the T500.
3) both have left-side kick starts. Potential interference between that & the rearset linkage looks to be about the same.

Shift lever, part # 25600-18000, is used on the T250, T350, GT250 & T500.
Brake pedal, part # 43110-18100, is used on the T250, T350 & GT250.
Brake pedal, part # 43110-15000, is used on the T500.

The T500 rearsets mount via the 2 exhaust bolts.

So it looks like the use of T500 rearsets on the GT250 requires only two mods:
1) shortening the shift linkage by about 1/2”
2) adding the second bolt mounting point to the frame (presumably with some reinforcement to that area)

But potential interference with the kickstart mechanism is TBD.

Anyone do this?
Any thoughts?

We have been asked to make 250 rearsets many times, but have never got around to it.....mainly as we have never had a 250 in the workshop to use for the proto-type. As you say, the smaller bikes only have a single exhaust mount, so something would have to be designed to make this work....

Have been thinking about the mods required.

A shop I use could weld on two mounting points above the existing one.
But that raises up the rearset & worsens the potential interference with the kick start mechanism.

I guess something welded on to the back of the mounting plate to stop it spinning could work.
