T350 carbs.
if l take the air cleaner off how long can l run the motor to see if carbs are working.its annoying taking off carbs,cleaning, putting air cleaner on then finding l still dont get fuel thru and starting over again.thanks

Running with the air cleaner off for sync-ing etc. is ok for short periods. Running without an air cleaner when riding is a big nono as it can make the bike run lean and possibly melt a piston.
Don't try and set mixtures, tickover etc. with the cleaner off as the bike will run richer with a cleaner fitted.

If you have a soft pliable rubber Y boot the air filler assembly is the easiest item to take off and put on. On the T350 you don’t even have to remove the seat to unscrew air filter can tabs. Well at least compared to the carbs which requires hex nuts to mount to the cylinders. I am getting real fast at starting the inside hex nuts on the carb flange, without dropping nut, washer, lock washer. I make sure piston is position blocking intake port just in case it fall into there by chance
I change the carbs a lot recently for I messed with Ex porting and that has required adjusting each fuel circuit accept pilot. When the bike was stock (chambers made no difference) stock jetting was perfect.
What trouble are you having with carbs?
I never ran without stock filter. I recently changed from later T350 stock filter cannister to a T305 (has more openings and more free flowing tubes (too noisy i mixed pieces to get better flow over T350 but some noise reduction versus T305.... I diverge) and it did not change jetting where I could tell a big difference jetting, suppose there was some... one size on main jet for example. I think it is the Y boot and initial entry into cannister has a larger affect.. why people have much more effort when trying to tune short pod filters for example
Running without filter indeed could make you lean, but if you want to try small little tests I suppose OK, but again I just put air filter back on each time. I would be worried about sucking up something and ruining the engine inside. Even though there is a fender on rear tire I (true?) a lot of road grime, dust, dirt gets flung around. And the carb is like a vacuum cleaner

i dont plan to ride with air cleaner off, just idle and rev in garage to check fuel flow.if it idles and revs l can be confident l have cleaned everything and can reassemble and tune accordingly.

If that’s how you like to do it OK. Why would you think idling or an occasional rev would hurt things? I would make be sure I had a fan blowing a decent amount of air onto the engine to make sure it kept cool for sure. I would not be worried about idling at all or occasional rev without filters But, I always just put the filter on for not hard to do particularly on a T350.

Mud sieved through an old used unwashed sock would be better than Adelaide water.
