Leaks, Leaks and more Leaks

Post by Coyote »

Of all the bikes I have messed with over the years, I have never had to face so many leaks. Not even my 69 Triumph basket case build (650 single carb. TR6) This thing has been a non rolling nightmare. First it was the front fork (still haven't fixed that). Then the clutch cover started oiling the floor. Had to buy another gasket and used 3 bond 1211 to seal. Then it was the oil pump. Fought that for 3 or 4 days. Then the front brake line puked it's guts out. Had to by another.
So you think that covers everything right? Wrong. Now I see brake fluid oozing out around the bleeder screw on the caliper. Can't go any tighter without fear of snapping it off. Brake bleeding went better than any I have ever done. Now I have to change out the bleeder and start over. The only thing that hasn't leaked is the handlebars.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

I feel your pain. What started out as a simple little tear down last winter to simply clean and freshen up things has cost me a lot of unnecessary expenses. Broke carb slide arm, needed replaced. Swelled oil tank to the point of no return, needed replaced. Had to buy a new brake plate that I broke using the 550 one for a donor. Discovered a malfunctioning needle valve, replaced. Lastly, but I'm sure I'm missing something else. I lost the damn front brake caliper that's been going on a month undiscovered. How and the hell does someone misplace a brake caliper ? There you go, feel better ?

Like when you get up to go do something. You make to your destination, but totally forget why you are there.
The brake caliper is probably right in front of you. You'll remember where it's at when it falls off the bench on your foot. Is it in the box with your rebuild kit? No! That's too logical.

Anything that falls to the floor in my garage vaporizes......

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........

...unless its a small and sharp part. Those lurk invisibly on the floor until one day they're surgically implanted into a knee cap :-(

Been there - done that - more times than I can remember. Man that hurts. A nice little counter sunk screw on the floor and you dead center it with your knee. Then it's AAaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. *$+:}#!^~*^+#!!
