Alternator won't come off on t350

Post by AgentOrange »

Wanted to check the crank seals but I can not for the life of me get the alternator off. I've tried the gear puller with a hard hit method and I have an extractor bit with no luck. I've taken off a few alternators with the bit so I know it does its job. What the next thing? Heat The alternator up and re do the gear puller method? Bike was running ok I think it was a charging issue with the daytime and nighttime wiring. Anyways I would still like to check the seal but as stated above have no idea where to go after the two methods I used

By "Alternator", do you mean the Rotor, which is attached to the crankshaft? Or the Stator, which has the coil windings, and holds the ignition points and condensors?

If it is the rotor you are trying to remove, perhaps this trick that works on the T500 might help: Remove the rear wheel axle, and screw it into the center of the rotor. They have the same threads, and the rounded end of the axle will push against the end of the crankshaft with no damage resulting. The crank end is tapered, and it doesn't take much to pop it free.

The last tight one I had was a GS500, I tensioned up the (screw-type) extractor as tight as I dared, then left it tensioned up overnight, next morning it popped off nicely with a sharp crack.
