How Many O-rings?

Post by Coyote »

How many o-rings go on this shaft assembly? As far as I can tell there is only one. It is on the shaft just behind pin #29. I ordered o=ring #32 as I figured that was the replacement for the o-ring near #29. I received the o-ring in an order from Partzilla. The bag had the correct number on it for o-ring #32. The ring in not the correct part for the shaft groove. The ID is close, nut it has nearly 3 tines the cross section. I figured at first I got the wrong o-ring, but the longer I look at it the less sure I am. The drawing makes appear like it fits in conjunction with seal #30.
So my question is, does this shaft have more than one o-ring?. If it does, where is the part number for the o-ring that fits on the shaft near pin #29? Did I just get the wrong part or are there actually 2 o-rings on this shaft?

Chris,

The O ring fits inside that ring on which the seal rides. Just one

agreed, part 32 slides tightly over the points shaft once O-ring 31 is in its groove. Its meant to be tight.

Is that to say there is no part number for the o-ring by the pin? There is definitely an o-ring there. That's the one I was trying to replace.

Chris, that O ring is the one that goes in the groove by the pin and the sleeve is a tight fit over it. They just show the O ring in an odd place on the diagram. It is one and the same thing.

I was beginning to suspect that Richard. But getting back to my first post, the o-ring I got can't be correct. I can understand that the new o-ring would have a somewhat thicker cross section as the old one has been in service for a while. But by comparison, this new o-ring is HUGE! If I have time later, I will take the assembly apart and get a side by side photo.
I assembled this section together using the old o-ring. It appears to be in good shape, but I figured I'd replace it while I had it apart. There was no trace of oil in the points cavity. I would not have taken it apart but I wanted to mask those bearings when the case went to powder coat. I did not remove the bearings, the snap ring or the seal #30. I just used a rubber washer (home made) on each side, 2 metal plates with a draw bolt to keep blasting grit from getting in the bearings.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

It should be the same as the GT750 one, check that o-ring part number for a reference.
