Yes, its certainly possible to have very good engagement and no slippage on a clutch yet still be clunky when gear changing, and yet that to arise from issues in the clutch. Here, the issue might be failure to fully disengage? is it ever tough to find neutral when the motor is hot and you are stopped? sometimes, the 'fingers' of the clutch plates wear grooves into the corresponding fingers in the clutch outer basket and this can make it tricky to smoothly and evenly push apart and disengage the clutch.
Anyway, maybe its still the adjuster end / cable.
Good luck,
Mike

Re: New GT380 owner/clutch adjustment question
Never had this problem it will snick into neutral quite easily.is it ever tough to find neutral when the motor is hot and you are stopped?
I think I do have it set where I want it now and it at least shifts nice enough and almost as good as the last Suzuki GS500F i owned.I think was the problem was I did not screw the adjusting screw in enough as there was some slight binding of the adjusting screw when turning through the worm gear I mistook this as the resistance point and backed off from there the trick is to screw in until you hit the rod and back off slightly of course.
