Hi guys, I bought brand new Newtronics kit from a member here. The install on my GT550K went well and the unit worked great. I logged a hundred miles or so with great results. Saturday went for a ride and after about a half hour one cylinder cuts out. I turn around for home and after a few more miles I loose spark on another. Running on one cylinder I get close to home and she quits, so I start pushing. That sucked. Anyway, what's happening is the 2 of the optical sensors stop sending their signal when they get hot. The center cylinder fires fine, after the bike cools it starts right up and runs fine on all three! I swapped the signal wires from the working center sensor to verify the black box is working fine.
I threw away my old points thinking I would never need them again.
Anyone else ever see this, or know of repair sensors??
I had a sender failure on one of my Newtronics and when we opened the back of the failed light sender we found the wires not even attached .. just touching i will see if i can find the picture i took .
I'm interested in this too! Not positive but I think something been up with the right cylinder portion of my newtronics. Been getting a slightly less hot burn on that one and can only attribute it to timing (which is set correctly), so I've deduced that something might be up with the ignition. Anyone seen this? It fires, but plug is showing a lot more soot than the other two... Incomplete burn?
You might check the plug caps , they have a resister inside and it can get crudded up in there . Look inside the cap after you screw it off the HT lead and you will see a screw driver slot . Thanks Dave! Oddly this is a new problem. I have however recently replaced all of the caps with non resistor style, and non resistor plugs. I will check to ensure there is good contact everywhere though so be certain. It's not as though the bike is not running, it's just seems to be an inconsistent spark issue with that plug. Gone as far as to gas foul a few plugs recently. Seemed very odd because up until then the motor has been running very strong with the newtronic ignition

Ok last night I brought home a high quality heat gun with a temperature control on it. The left cylinder sensor stops working right at 150F cool down a few degrees and works again. Is there a way to melt or remove that potting without destroying the sensor? I suspect bad solder work also.

Its also of benefit that they learn there are some bad sensors.
I emailed Newtronic support and asked if they had spares. No answer yet. I also searched a little on the web and found other posts describing exact same problems. But no solutions.

The power wires going down to the sensors are at 7 volts. This is with the battery sitting at 12 volts, key on, not running. The trigger wires are at 7 volts when open and drop the voltage at the pin to 3 volts when the sensor is interrupted. Kinda strange numbers, not sure if that is normal.
