Post by oldjapanesebikes »

I was thinking of attending this show and shine in York which is located about 100km east of Perth in WA - anyone on the board know if it is worth the trip ?

Hi,
I've been there a couple of times. Usually pretty crowded with lots of activity. A variety of bikes with not a two stroke in sight... Lots of old bastards on Harleys trying to look cool. I's a good ride from Perth to York. Just have to watch out for cops raising revenue.

Are you coming over to WA on holidays?

Visiting family in Perth, which can be like a vacation sometimes ! :D Will also be in Melbourne as there has been a recent addition to the family tree there, and we thought we'd stop by and say hello to the little guy and his parents. 8)

Ian...take lots of money with you, my daughter just got back from 5 weeks in Australia and she could not believe the price of things compared to Canada, even though the two dollars are pretty well par.

Bloop2,
The only stuff that is expensive is fuel, housing, food (dining out is really pricey!), clothing, cars, motorbikes, rent etc. Other things such as...umm...err...let me see now, mmm can't think of anything that is good value here.

The mining boom (though it has settled down a bit) has driven up wages and thus all costs have risen across the board. Perth is really isolated so transport cost are just plain stupid.

Yep, need to bring lots of money.

Ditto in the ACT. I've just come back from a trip on the bike along the Great Ocean Road in Vic and met a Dutch couple at a camping site. They were gob smacked at the prices through out Oz.

Lucky we Australians are all millionaires and so it's not a problem...

I had to dismiss one of my pastry chefs to save on costs. I wonder what my chauffeur is going to have for morning teas now?

Had a good visit with Fritz500 today in Perth, WA - lots of yak and lots of laughs - many thanks !  Not sure at this point if I will make it to the York Festival in a couple of weeks after I get back from Melbourne, but if I do then perhaps we can do a repeat !

What a fine pair of Suzie nuts!

It was good to catch up with someone who is more obsessed about Suzie smokers than me. You take a great hands free photo!

I'm heading up to York if the weather is fine.

Had a good visit with Donna-Ann in Melbourne who is on the FB GT750 board quite often, and whose brother owns a private museum and shop where they restore vintage Indians, and have a great collection of Suzuki's as well as many other machines.

Take a look at http://www.antiquemotorcycle.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . The Australian TV channel 'GO' is currently filming episodes of a local show called ManSpace there, featuring car and motorcycle restorers and their sheds. The shop is well worth a visit if you are in the area. 8)

Back in Perth - had a good visit with 'muzza' whom many here would be familiar with. He is just starting to restore a Cobra which he has been collecting parts for several years, and I'm looking forward to going back to see the finished project ! 8)

Looks like I will miss the York Festival as still spending time with family - but that provides an excuse for another visit here in a couple of years.

How is Muzza, that old reprobate ?? I'm glad to see someone that I know finally got together with him.
One of these days, when I win the lottery, I'll be able to visit him, too.
