In VIC the issue is overzealous speed cameras and outrageous fines for going a little too fast. I copped a $150 fine for being 3 KPH over the 100 limit on a freeway off ramp. :?
Gee sounds like the cops around here on the island, many people traveling at 3 or 5 kmh over the posted limit have had to shell out some serious cash.
I mean really? and this has happened on a road out in the country with no houses abutting it thats mostly devoid of traffic, and a cop is going to hide and 'gun' a driver for 3 or 5 kmh (thats about 2mph) over the posted limit,,pleeeease.
I can understand speed checking in a school zone, a residential area or busy commercial area, but on a mostly quiet stretch of country road??
Now if you are doing at least 10 to 20 over the posted limit on that same road, that needs to be looked at.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Paul, No worries mate. I feel your pain.

The "story" that Australian police have sold for years is it's all about safety and like all great scams, there's just enough truth in there to make it believable. The same approach is used for speeding etc. Cheeky buggers call their revenue devices "Speed cameras". In the case of VIC, it was a deliberate attempt to raise revenue to dig out of a budget mess. Chicago has budgeted to make $130million in 2014 IIRC from speed cameras.

The bigger issue that you are alluding to is the gradual removal of people's rights under the guise of "safety". The US isn't much different. If people over here ever wake up to how little privacy they have, there would be a revolution. But there won't be. People are incredibly apathetic all over the world. There's a belief that my vote makes no difference so why bother. That and the BS that FOX and other channels feed us.

The funniest thing here is to switch between MSNBC and FOX and listen to the news. There is no news. It's all political posturing. If I want news I have to watch CCTV9 from China. At least they report facts and I can make my own mind up about how I really feel.

And just for laughs, Michelle Bachman was screaming at someone the other day that the US will end up like Australia if it raises minimum wages. According to her, Ford are closing up shop in 2016 because they have to pay a minimum wage of $20 and hour. Since when did the auto industry pay minimum wage. The big problem in Australia is the small size of the economy that requires protection and the Aussie government decided to totally deregulate the auto industry to make it stronger. Genius move. But back to Batwoman. She's a head case at the best of times but smack talk about a country she knows nothing about is another dumb move. Why am I surprised?

I think I'll stay away from the coffee pot for the rest of the day.
