left turn signal not working

Post by apoole6 »

Hey guys hope everyone had a good Christmas and new years day. So im trying to figure out why the left turn signal doesn't work but the right one does. Not sure if I plugged something up wrong or if the wires/relay are bad. The bulbs are good they just don't blink on the left?

Do they light at all?
Check earths in the holders, it the holders are plastic, you have to run earth wires to ground.
Or maybe the switch. Swap wires from the switch side to side to see if the fault 'moves'.
Have you put LED bulbs in and they are wired wrong? They have to be connected the right way or they don't work.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Left turns are dangerous. Just only turn right.

Causes could be:
Blown bulb
Wrong wattage bulb
Poor ground
Corroded bulb socket
Improper wiring

Happy new year... First if the right is working but not left.
Take the lens off and bulb out of it's holder.. ( check to see if bulb blown )
1st Turn ignition on,
2. Turn left switch on
3. With a meter/tester check to see if there's any voltage in the middle of the holder. ( try not to touch the outer )
4. If live, you have a supply ( might be bad/ no earth )
5. If not live, check headlight connection plug, from the 3 wires plug, from left indicator/ blinker..
6. Could be a wire off in the Handel bar switch?
7. 3 wires that do the indicators .. Black / light blue / & light green. The blue is the supply from the blinker unit, inside the panel..
8. Black.. Left turn ... Light green right turn.. Black might have come loose..
Let us know what it was wrong. thanks..

I'm gonna check it over tomorrow(its late here as I am typing) and look at the back wiring and up at the light. I hooked both blues together close to the flasher relay. Both left bulbs work but could it be the relay?? And I just got a new l/h switch(the original broke) so I don't think its that.

Hey so in the back I have the wires going from the brake light. Theres two black wires from each turn signal but theres only one black and a light green wire that connects to the wiring harness?? Not sure if that's correct.

Off topic real quick I just took out the speedo lense and I would like to know where I could get a new one?

So I found the culprit to why the left blinker wasn't working. The ground between the left fork ear to the headlight bucket wasn't complete. Now my next thing is where can I get new lenses for the gauges?
