OK you tuning guys....could I fit these to my T500? They don't appear to have a choke mechanism?

Re: Carbs ?
I think the chokes are just removed and photos take to obfsucate.
Pretty bike carbs. Do you need that much carb in your application?

Re: Carbs ?
put a tennis ball or similar with a small hole in it on each carb to start it, to act as air restrictors. Used to work on Bantams, Fanny Bs etc
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Re: Carbs ?
I doubt I do TZ....but I am just about to rebuild one of my 500s into a bit of a special, but keeping a pretty stock motor so it's nice and usable.
The cafe racer may as well get tuned the eyeballs out of......just to see how quick it will go. I rarely ride it, so I'm not bothered if it's peaky and horrible, I just want it fast when the taps are open. I have some ported barrels that I have had for over 30 years...they came to me in a pile of 500 bits in around 82, but I have never fitted them to a bike. They are in good nick, with pistons, and I fancy giving them a try. The ports look huge to me, way bigger than those of the ported barrels currently fitted to the bike. I shall have to dig them out, and give you some measurements, and get your opinion.....
So do you think those 38s could be made to work?

Re: Carbs ?
In terms of fitting them, yes. At that price, you can always sell them on if you don't like them.
You'll need different inlet manifolds and will have to match the whole port to those carbs, but they will look the part. On the street I would think that 34s are a better match, but try them and see.

Re: Carbs ?
Actually I have some 34s in my watch list too....TZ carbs, but they are already through the roof and haven't yet reached reserve...

Re: Carbs ?
Nothing special about TZ carbs. They are the same alloy bodied (not zinc) as fitted to hundreds of YZ/CR/KZ/RM bikes as well as a slew of sleds. Watch the sled carbs though small bodied 34s are zinc/pot metal.
