If none of those work, you could also resort to using steel wool and soapy water, or mineral spirits (or switch back & forth a few times, the mineral spirits will get off any grease, oil, etc... and the soap/water gets off the rest). Start with grade 00, then go to 000, and finish out with 0000. It will take a while, but will get all that crummy stuff off. Should leave your casings looking like the day they came from the factory, too.

yes but this scenario is more for the older guys who are retired and are quire happy to rub down an engine casing all day. What about the rest of us who are in the rat race and need to clean off the old varnish in a couple of hours? There must be a simple, household, every day remedy.
I will try brake fluid, i think

Find an old guy with nothing to do and give him some money - after all, he might be happy to rub an engine casing all day.
Don't ask me, I will graciously tell you to go and play with yourself!!!! Haha!!!
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
