Re: GT 750 L smoking more out of left pipe
Just an update
So far it rarely smokes, just a tad at start up then clears up.
Quite happy about the out come.
Then a hiccup..while a a local fair on Oct 12 we were at a vintage car/motorcycle display.
We left after a few hours and made our way thru the line up of cars as we slowed for a stop sign a fog of blue smoke rolls by..Faaack I think..Once onto the highway it FOGS badly causing the cars behind us to back off.
Taking it easy in 3rd gear trying not to really fog anyone out.
Within 1 1/2 miles it cleared completely up and never smoked again even cruising at 65-70 in spots.
Several outings after that weekend the bike has remained smokeless well almost but very clean running.
Where's William Shatner now for a "Weird or What" episode.

Re: GT 750 L smoking more out of left pipe
So much depends on those spring loaded SRIS valves working as designed , any problem with them not purgeing the oil buildup would create a smoke show the next time you whip up the engine enough to get it into the intake .
the older i get the faster i was

Re: GT 750 L smoking more out of left pipe
You may know this already, but based on what I've read regarding the SRIS system, it is intended to "reduce smoking" after extended periods of idling or low engine speed operation, such as when sitting at red-lights. That is when excess oil tends to pool in the bottom of the crankcase which can cause excess smoking during the next acceleration. The SRIS allows any oil to be scavenged in small quantities up to the next cylinder during its intake stroke where it is hamelessly burned with that fuel charge. Assuming it all works correctly, it would continuously burn off the the "excess" before it can become a FOG MACHINE during your next acceleration. During normal operation (i.e. non-idle engine speeds & driving), there is adequate aggitation & flow from the crankcase into the combustion chamber to minimize oil accumulation and keep the "fog" to an reasonable level even if the SRIS didn't work at all or was totally absent (as on my GT550.... I took it off! Mine only smokes for about 2 minutes after a cold start or under hard throttle... which is normal).
Having said all that, blue smoke means burning oil. Varying quantities means something is changing at various times & conditions. Possibly, dispite your best efforts, the SRIS valves are intermittently operating. If so, I would expect the smoke to switch from pipe to pipe when the valve(s) works or not. OR maybe too much injection oil from the pump (maybe an adjustment is appropriate?). The only other oil near the combustion chamber is transmission oil. Have you ever noticed if it smokes more or less after resting on the side-stand as opposed to the center-stand? That might indicate transmission oil leaking when it is leaned over & resting. Since you put gear oil in the transmission, I would think that would minimize leakage into the crank area, but maybe not. I've never dealt with crank seals or leaks from the transmission, so I'm no help there.
So far, I haven't helped much...Sorry. Here's an "experimental" suggestion. Disconnect & plug your SRIS system (you can leave the lines in place & just plug the bottom front engine ports & the inlets at the back of the engine). It won't hurt anything. Ride it for a while & see what you see. If nothing changes, then it AIN"T the SRIS! Good Luck & keep us posted.

Re: GT 750 L smoking more out of left pipe
Since cleaning the exhaust and installing new SRIS valves it actually works pretty good. That hiccup surprised me.
Most times the GT sits on it's side stand sometimes for a week with no issues at all.
Checked my gear box oil today and no change..I suspect maybe injector oil puddling for some reason..maybe the check ball stuck? or the SRIS vavle failed at that moment..who knows but it still running clean.

Re: GT 750 L smoking more out of left pipe
just to let you guys know here in the UK we are having check valves remanufactured ,we have tested some samples out on the road with no problems and are now waiting for another 1000 to be made should be ready by the end of Nov 13 as you know we've all had problems with these valves.

What are you doing about the Spider/octopus/oil distribution manifold and how will the new valves connect?givemeagirl wrote:just to let you guys know here in the UK we are having check valves remanufactured ,we have tested some samples out on the road with no problems and are now waiting for another 1000 to be made should be ready by the end of Nov 13 as you know we've all had problems with these valves.

Re: GT 750 L smoking more out of left pipe
Any update on the new check valves that were being trialled? It'd be great to get some info on their performance and potential for sale. I'm sure a number of guys are interested. Ta

Any updates on these check valves? I'd be interested in buying a remanufactured set for my gt550L.givemeagirl wrote:just to let you guys know here in the UK we are having check valves remanufactured ,we have tested some samples out on the road with no problems and are now waiting for another 1000 to be made should be ready by the end of Nov 13 as you know we've all had problems with these valves.

Re: GT 750 L smoking more out of left pipe
It's really up to Dave to comment and it would be unfair to him if I did.
All I will say, is that the check valves are nicely made and good quality. When sorted, they will be worth investing in.
Let me state here that I don't know Dave at all other than through the check valves that have been mentioned in another thread, so I'm not 'protecting' a mate who has produced something that's not as described. I'm sure he will comment in due course.

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
